Asian Groups Slam Toby Keith's 'Racist' Gesture
TMZ ^ | December 16th, 2009 | TMZ staff

Posted on 12/16/2009 2:21:28 PM PST by Eurotwit

Toby Keith may think his Nobel Peace Prize party eye gesture wasn't a big deal -- but TWO Asian organizations are furious about it, claiming the "racist" maneuver wasn't just offensive, it was an embarrassment to his country.

As TMZ first reported, Keith pulled back his eyes when Will Smith rapped the word "yellow" during an impromptu performance in Norway a few days ago -- Toby's rep blew it off, telling us, "nobody at the party thought Toby was out of line." But outside the party -- people are pissed.

A rep for the Asian American Justice Center tells TMZ, "Toby Keith embarrassed himself and his country, denigrated the Noble Peace Prize and offended Asians and Asian Americans by using a crude, racist hand gesture."

Another group -- the Media Action Network for Asians -- also took offense with Toby, telling us, "By doing this, he is telling his Asian fans 'you don't matter, you're not on my radar.'"

Toby looks a little out of place there. Does he hang out with Will Smith? I didn’t picture those to together. I thought Toby would be more comfortable smoking pot with Willie Nelson. But as an Asian American I can say that I am not offended.

After that performance all three should be charged with disturbing the ‘peace.’

Such racism is offensive and serves to obstruct success of minorities in America.

Because of this, Asian-Americans will no longer be able to succeed in school, not be admitted to universities, not have the highest percapita income of any race in the US, and not have the lowest prison population or crime statistics.

Yes, when you insult with racist slurs, you create victims.

snarc

just making a point....so if Afr Ams find any slightly remotely slurring comment as offensive and prevents their success in society, how come the same doesn’t hold true for Asian Americans, who manage to be wildly successful and model citizens despite the ongoing negative stereotypes against them? on top of that, the extremely poor representation of Asian americans in media? when was the last time an Asian American has won on Oscar? A Grammy? Had top billing in an oscar winning movie? Had a late night talk show? Had a top ten song in the US?

Just wondering. How come Asians don’t seem themselves as victims despite the clear stereotypes in American culture?

If you’ve genuinely offended someone, and you’re genuinely sorry about it, its always appropriate to apologize, preferably in person.

But never, ever apologize to the permanently offended. Never apologize to the permanently outraged.

Permanent outrage is a pose, and its like background noise. It never varies, and it therefore is meaningless. Its just how they get over on you. The “permanently outraged” have learned that the easiest way you can manipulate people is by playing on their guilt. Its easy, most people want to do the right thing, and most people sincerely don’t want to cause offense which is how the permanently outraged get away with their endless shakedowns. Its a huge power trip, and some people manage to make a living doing it too.

Screw the sniveling crybabies...

Like the ones who deleted the Monty Python links.

Monty Python?

Oh, well.

Good on you, take care of yourselves.

Thin-skinned and whiney.

Is that racist?

I thought it was very silly.

It shows that even freerepublic is getting silly these days. The PC rot it getting damn terminal.

It was a link to the “I like Chinese” and “Never be rude to an arab”.

I just took the links out at random from youtube because I know these bloody songs.

So I try again with different videoes offending the Finnish, the Irish, the Chinese.... (Liver performances instead of what might be considered unnapropriate video edits.

Finland:

Canada:

China:

Arabs, Irish, blacks, Israelies, Saudis, wops and krauts

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F67JhKT5bxU

(Note to the moderator: I didn’t check the one video. I agree the imagery made was a bit in bad taste on the user made video, hence now there is a clip from a live performance by the Pythons)

Cheers.

Miley Cyrus had the same problem.

It's a silly controversy.

Look at a popular chinese toothpaste through the years:

Sort of a case of the pot calling the kettle black ... or yellow ... or white... or something.

I forgot to say what a douche Lee Greenwood is . All these songsters ,"Boot in the azz " and "stand up beside you" never wore combat boots and never stood up when it was their turn and never bore arms for their country . You can have them.

That is the most ignorant show I have ever seen. It’s historically innaccurate, unfunny, uninformative, and generally lame. I caught 10 minutes of it on IFC. Whatever the goal of producing that show was, it resulted in a wasted effort.
