China tells U.S.: No deal

COPENHAGEN — China’s climate negotiators have told Western counterparts they can’t agree to an “operational agreement” on climate change that President Barack Obama had hoped to bring home from Copenhagen –- and will push for a short, noncommittal collective statement at the end of the talks, according to American staffers briefed on the situation.

It’s not clear if remarks by Chinese officials, made during negotiating sessions on Wednesday night, signal the end of efforts to reach a significant agreement or simply represent an 11th hour bargaining tactic less than a day before Obama was due to arrive in Copenhagen.

But U.S. officials fear it's the former, with little time left to negotiate a real deal before COP 15’s conclusion Friday.

Lead U.S. negotiator Todd Stern told POLITICO late Wednesday that his staff had not engaged in one-on-one “bilats” with China for a whole day – and hadn’t even addressed a major issue, a proposed “border tax” on countries that flouted international accords. That provision was included in the cap-and-trade measure the House passed in July – and no bill omitting it is likely to pass the Senate.

Good.

The Chinese wanted money for “pollution control” but no checking that they did any of it.

Besides that it’s all nonsense.

Jeez, did you ever think you would live in an Alice in Wonderland world where Russia and China were the forces of economic sanity which quashed socialist nonsense sponsored by the US?

When Obama flopped in China last trip and tried to do a “TEAR DOWN THAT FIREWALL” and pull a Reagan to save himself; China also DETAILED and PREACHED to him how we are spending trillions of dollars on foolish things.

So Obama got beotch slapped down again...a communist country telling him he was too radical left...

Are we living in a twilight zome?

It’s how the Chinese negotiate: “Give us everything we ask for or you go home with nothing. We don’t need a treaty to look good, but you do.”

I’m sure the Chicoms want all that money we borrowed from them back.. otherwise I can imagine them going along with this garbage if only to help us further down the fools path. The left wants carbon credits to become a commodity like oil.

It’s pretty scary when the chicoms are more capitalistic than the US.
When Johnson was president, my grandfather made the prediction that the US would become more socialistic and the commies would become more capitalistic to the point where you coundn’t tell the difference. Made that prediction in the ‘60’s.

They realize that any money we pay out now to “developing countries” when it all boils down will come out of their checkbook.

Why loan us money so we can just give the stuff away?? If I were China I’d be kind of pissed at Obama and Clinton’s arrogance too.

Wouldn’t you think hussein would avoid Copenhagen at all costs? If any one location represented his personal Waterloo, Copenhagen would have to be it.

Oh, I forgot ... the man is hubris personified.

Hillary gave her ‘word’ at the conference a little while ago that we would contribute to the $100 BILLION per YEAR for the next 10 years (that’s a trillion dollars for you inner city children)to the redistribution fund..meanwhile the uncivilized mammals in Africa are still saying it’s not enough....if this goes through..I’ll fire the first shot in the war if no one else does..

Guess they’re comin to get me now...

Bacrock should have realized that China will act in its own best interest. China also owns most of our debt thanks to Congress, Bush, and Obama. That means they have a lot of leverage until it is paid down.

If Bush was the chimp, what does that make Bacrock since he's stupider than Bush on his worst day? A Goat.

Something's wrong when I find myself rooting for Chinese interests, over the stated goal of the US administration.

It seems the Chinese are firmly rooted in reality. They make no bones about their tyranny (of which I have huge problems with), but they do not deny what's real.

Speaking of Copenhagen, tomorrow’s high is expected to be 29 degrees, with snow all day. The average high for this time of year is 39 degrees.

As always it’s purely self-interest for the Chinese.

For one thing, they have so much money invested in the USA that they don’t want to see its economy ruined by lunatic climate policies. They are doing us a favor, but only incidentally.
