Senator wants to ban semi-automatic weapons
By HEATHER BOSCH
KIRO Radio
Expect to hear a lot about gun control when the legislature reconvenes in January.
Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles is among those who want to ban the sale of military-style, semi-automatic weapons. "These are guns that I don't see have any function in our society."
Kohl-Welles said she was prompted to act after the murder of Seattle Police Officer Tim Brenton.
"He was believed to be killed by a semi-automatic assault weapon. Of course, we also had the killing of several other police officers not by assault weapons. The point here is that we're having police killed in much larger numbers than the past."
The ban, which is supported by the Seattle Police department would cover all weapons that are capable of rapid fire and can hold more than 10 rounds in a clip.
Also supporting the ban is Washington Ceasefire, a non- profit organization dedicated to reducing gun violence.
The bill in question is called the Aaron Sullivan Public Safety and Police Protection Bill. Which is named for Sullivan who was killed by an assault rifle in Seattle on July 22nd, 2009.

- I would be interested in obtaining clarification as to whether this 'support' comes in any large measure from rank and file Officers, or just the usual-suspect Chief and top brass who invariably support such Left-wing political posturing.
- No article on guns from the MSM would be complete without at least one obvious, glaring terminology error such as using the world 'clip' when the world 'magazine' would be the appropriate choice

"The point here is that we're having police killed in much larger numbers than the past" Someone needs to educate this idiot about the years 1865-1900. More police are killed today, because THERE ARE MORE POLICE. It has nothing to do with law-abiding citizens exercising their Constitutional rights.

I’d like to split Washington in half, east side, west side, say at the entrance to Mt.Ranier.

"He was believed to be killed by a semi-automatic assault weapon.Perhaps something does need to be done about all those autonomous weapons that roam Washington and shoot unsuspecting police officers. In other states guns are not permitted to roam about alone or in herds.

Of course, we also had the killing of several other police officers not by assault weaponsThey "had" it done? Is this Washington's method of terminating a union police officer that can't be fired?

More police are killed today, because THERE ARE MORE POLICE. It has nothing to do with law-abiding citizens exercising their Constitutional rights.I'm not even convinced that's true. Someone posted some numbers the other day comparing line-of-duty police deaths with the early 70's. The per capita numbers were down so sharply (>70% decrease) that even the absolute numbers were down in spite of a 50% increase in the number of officers.

You are quite right: Washington is really two separate states, with widely divergent attitudes and philosophies. West of the Cascades is moonbat central, while east of the Cascades has some semblance of normalcy.

HMMMMM...... I wonder what she did for Officer Sullivan before he died. As a Democrat, I doubt she did much (unless he was in a union of course). Then she might at least have given him a tax deduction receipt for his in-name campaign contribution.

The gunman who killed the four police in Lakewood was not using a military style weapon.
