Extremely important historical object. Would probably end up in a WWII collection belonging to someone.

I've been asking this since the mid 90s, when is Europe going to care about the muslim takeover?

Obama staffers took it to present to their Muslim boss today.
I hear he wants to put it on top of the entrance to the planned mosqueument that is going to be placed on the site of the old National Cathedral.

True, a unique souvenir of the infamous era. But for the same reason the new owner could never talk about it.

Unless some deadbeat drug addict sells it as scrap metal to a scrap dealer. I don’t know if they have a big problem with that in Europe, but in the US it would have a big chance of getting melted down as scrap. The dealers don’t ask any questions, and since they couldn’t sell it on eBay without the police coming to arrest them, they’d figure they might as well melt it down and get $10 out of it.
To: GovernmentShrinker
I don’t think that they will melt it down. Its going to end up in someone’s private collection.

The Poles will prolly have a new one made for display purposes at the site.
It’s interesting to me that it was even possible to filch the sign. Wouldn’t the site draw enough ire from those whose families perished in concentration camps that it would need to be carefully watched to prevent vandalism? Maybe some really pi$$ed off Jew really has had the durn thing melted down.

Police: Auschwitz 'Arbeit Macht Frei' sign stolenNo worries. Obama will return it after he's gotten his own made up for us.

If I’m not mistaken, this was not the original sign, but a replica put up by the Polish government back in the 60’s or 70’s.

My girlfriend was a volunteer docent there back in the 80’s. She used to take groups of people around and show them the horrors of the place. I thought it was fairly well maintained and guarded at the time.
Perhaps things have changed.....
