Al-Amara, Iraq - Iranian troops have claimed an oil well on the border of southern Iraq, a senior Iraqi military officer said Friday. Iranian troops on Thursday "occupied" the "Number 4" oil well in the Eastern Maysan oil field, located in the border district of al- Fakah, Brigadier-General Dhafir Nadhmi said in a statement Friday.
Nadhmi said that Iranian forces had taken control of the well, dug a trench around it, deployed armoured vehicles, and raised the Iranian flag over the well.

No, Obama will be too angry to even hold a pen, LOLOL -- surely this news will detract from the Great Speech that the Great One delivered to the freeezing cold global-warmer enthusiasts & true believers -- now all the reporters will be focused upon Iran and not upon BHO.
Sound like a couple of those concrete jdams are custom-made to fix this problem post-haste.
Wake up folks! Notice what is happening!
Iran is already positioned on Saudi Arabia’s flank (Yemen) and now are making overt moves into Iraq.
Big deal... We have to know more about Tiger Woods! Get this trivial Iran/Iraq thing out of the way so we can have more threads about Tiger and we can tsk tsk about his behavior!
FYI *ping* - a possible incident...
Surfs up, off to Hawaii!
Tiger Woods is sooo yesterday but did you hear what comedian Senator Al Franken said to Senator Joe Lieberman yesterday, tsk, tsk, tsk.....
The MSM can't be bothered with real news.
And “who” is going to do anything about this?
Maybe we’ll find out.
Can you invite Sunnis and Shias to a beer summit?
We'll have to wait and see if this is anything more than just a few rebel idiots.
Iran’s goal is hegemony over Saudi Arabia and Iraq. It need not attack Israel, the destruction of which it knows can be entrusted to western politicians.
You are going back to the Reagan years. That’s good.
looks like (for the time being) this incident is over
Iran troops ventured onto Iraqi oilfield — source
Fri Dec 18, 2009 7:14am EST
BAGHDAD, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Iranian troops briefly entered Iraqi territory on Thursday and spent several hours at an Iraqi oilfield, an Iraqi official said on Friday.
A security source in the southeastern Maysan province, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Iranian troops made their way onto the Fakka oilfield, located just on the Iraqi side of the two countries’ long desert border.
The troops withdrew after several hours, the official said. It was not immediately clear why the troops would have undertaken such a move.
According to Arabic-language television reports, Iranian troops entered the Iraqi oilfield and raised an Iranian flag.

Iranian forces yesterday entered Iraqi territory at dawn, and occupied well number 4 in the East Maysan field in al-Fakah region, 450 kilometers (280 miles) south of Baghdad, Border Guard General Zaser Nazmi said. The Iranian forces positioned tanks around the well.
The border guards comments couldnt be immediately verified independently.
They positioned tanks around it and dug trenches, Nazmi said by phone from Basra. They are still there, they raised the flag.
East Maysan in southern Iraq is an old oil field that is no longer in production, according to Nazmi. Iraq is the third largest oil producer in the Middle East after Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The indigenous thuggery is getting restless, that's all.
Move along people, go back to your lives...
