Possibly Kuwait as well

That’s what I’m thinking too. Israel made that strike against Syria earlier this year and Egypt and Saudi Arabia didn’t say a peep about it.

Something has to be done about Iran soon, and the region knows it.

They have 80 F-16s with Amraams and Sidewinders, 60 Mirgage 2000s configured for strike, and 30 Apaches. Air to ground weapons include over 1000 Mavericks, 400 Hellfires for the Apaches, 160 HARMs to suppress enemy radar, and 50 Harpoons for naval strike.

Considering the state of the Iranian air force, I'd say the general is entirely correct. They couldn't destroy the entire Iranian armored force on the ground single handed, but they'd make a hell of a dent. (Iran has about 3500 major ground AFVs, counting tanks, APCs, self propelled artillery, etc).

I think the general was just pointing out that Iran talks big but its military is mostly 2 generation old Soviet era junk, and being a US ally able to buy the latest equipment from us is what actually makes for modern military power.

He picked the UAE to show what weight class Iran is in and that it isn't very high. It is a good sales pitch for F-16s and good diplomacy...

Because they view Iran as more of a threat to their security than Israel. Arabs and Persians detest each other (and have for a couple of thousand years) despite some commonality of Islam.Arabs are no fans of the Turks as well.

Iran is constantly threatening Hormuz shipping traffic.

Not really. UAE has a modern Air Force and Iran’s is decrepit. But honestly, the way they fight over there the Honduran Air Force could whip Iran.

How competent are their pilots and ground crews? How much flying do they do? Do they understand the capabilities of their weapons? Can they coordinate with the Saudis and Israelis and vice-versa?

I'manutjob has nothing to fear from US, but if the Saudis et al and the Israelis decide to work together, there will be some serious ass-kicking applied where it hurts him the most.

“Yes, but why telegraph it NOW?”

To provoke the Iranians into attacking first.
