I will venture to GUESS that this was a part of on going military operations and it is a puff piece for Obama. If it was a bad result they would not have put Obama front and center. I will also guess they are desperate for any good press for Obama.

What I am clumsily trying to get you to contemplate...is the lack of real difference between a ‘proxy’ and a ‘state actor’.

Iran is backing the sh’ias in Yemen to make things uncomfortable for the Saudis. Wouldn’t it be nice if the Saudis got pissed off enough at Iran to act as our proxies?

Like that has never happened before? It’s all a cluster you know what. The bottom line imho is that we had better nail down our policy about ‘proxies’ before they get us all killed. It’s time for clarity, like a cowboy from Texas expressed..you are either with us or against us....PERIOD!
They’ve acted as our landing strip, and tank parking lot, but haven’t fought a war for us that I recall.
The US military is shooting in the wrong direction.
Was the Gulf War for US? I remmeber it being a war to protect the gulf states from a rogue state actor (Iraq). The real test will be when our country blows up I guess. Which countries will be for freedom and which ones will be for tyranny. We should start planning our allies right now.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it OUR responsibility as we are still in Iraq, to help them repel such attacks and secure these wells, be they one or more?
I could list theirs (the Commies/Islamic terrorists who ARE allied, even if loosely at this point) — not so sure which of our allies will be up to the task should we get hit though...
Does anyone know the real details of the Iraqi vs US responsibilities now? We, or the Coalition, have always backed off when the situation became Irag vs Iran, Mookie al-Sadr being a glaring example.
I really do suspect that a small fracas like this one looks to be would fall within the Iraqi’s baliwick.
