Live Thread; Senate Health Care Debate 12/20/09 - 12/21/09 (Senator Coburn Speaking Right Now)
C-Span ^ | 12/20/09 | US Senate

Posted on 12/20/2009 1:16:36 PM PST by BCrago66

I didn't know it until a couple minutes ago, but Senator Coburn is speaking now, likely to an empty chamber. At 1AM EST tomorrow - I think - a new procedural vote happens, and we'll see if the Democrats have their 60 votes.

Anyone aware that Bernie Sanders has proposed this?

S. 2909:

A bill to provide State programs to encourage employee ownership and participation in business...

Sorry if this is off topic...but it’s all part of this socialist/communist takeover of the government.

There a series of votes required to break the Republican filibuster. The next, I think, is 1AM EST tomorrow. Right now, I think Coburn and Corker are talking before a mostly empty chamber.

Coburn came right out and said that his staff checked with the “judiciary” and people cannot be forced to purchase health insurance under the commerce clause.

From what I heard, the final Senate vote will be on Christmas Eve or Christmas at the latest. Unless a Democrat defects or the Republicans can think up another delaying tactic. Nothing is set in stone.

Fawn, Sen. Grassley (R) just said that they’re meeting a 1 minute after 12 tonight and are forcing them to vote at 1 a.m. He said they want it passed before people have a chance to know what’s in it. Pray.

Are all the Democratic Senators afraid to do the right thing for this country or are they all simply making deals for their own future?

It doesn’t go into effect until 2014 right? We have time to get in there and change it.

Maybe on January 21st, 2013, we can start changing it. Before then it would take 2/3 of both houses of Congress to overcome Obama’s veto. Now it’s possible that a Democrat wipe-out in the 2010 elections, plus public pressure, will convince Obama not to veto some changes, in exchange for him getting what he wants on some other issue. But Obama appears to be pretty ideologically committed.

Sen Harkin lying. Asking for vote to go at 9AM but have the hours from 1AM - 9AM count towards the next 30 hour time frame.

Rep Sen objected.

Harkin is THE biggest DRAMA QUEEN in the Senate. He’s just a smarmy actor lie.

HARKIN = LIAR

Many Senators are now asking for the same deal as Nebraska for Medicaid. The AL Sen asked on behalf of CA - as CA doesn’t have the 2 BILLION to fund their Medicaid portion this new bill would require.

Rep Senators are on record asking for same deal Neb has in regards to 100% indefinite reimbursement for Nebraska’s Medicaid program.

So if much of the Bill is unconstitutional, along with many bribes along the way, can this Bill be negated in the future?

Sen Stabenow is whining that Reps are doing their Constitutional duty to bring up objections.

They are jamming this through so that O can brag during his SOTU address. Some arbitrary date they selected, Christmas.

Bragging that the Dems have bulldozed the Reps.

She just blamed Reps for high deficit.

Sen Stabenow is giving a preview of O’s SOTU address, she is running down all the Lib’s bills. She’s giving many of the 101 so called Rep objections. No doubt this will be O’s SOTU all the while throwing Reps under the bus. Bragging and spitting on Reps at the same time.

The Libs are pathetic. They let the Libs stand up there alone and rant, but when it’s a Rep’s time to speak, someone sits behind Rep Senator, Sen Hatch currently to distract.

He reading, shuffling papers behind Hatch. Writing moving around. Drinking water, this is a joke.

Libs are the new SNL in the Senate.

The provisions of major bills are “severable,” to use legal language. That means if one provision, e.g., the individual mandate, is deemed unconstitutional, then all remaining provisions, e.g., the subsidies, and the new insurance regulations, etc., remain intact.

However, killing one portion of the bill might have the practical effect of killing the entire scheme. Insurance companies cannot survive the requirement to fund care for those with pre-existing conditions, unless there’s a giant risk pool created by the individual mandate to buy health insurance. But that might not cause Democrats to scrap requirement to fund pre-existing conditions, because many or most of them are likely inclined to let private health insurance die, as a prelude to a government run single-payer system.

Bill Nelson right now.
The last hour of debate on this health care bill.

Oh! The horror! He’s saying the republicans are criticizing the bill
by taking certain specifics and talking about them!

I’m not making this up folks.

These people are dumber than rocks.
Senator Nelson: it’s called “debate” which your side limited.

Okay.
This Nelson character
is saying that it’s great that the Medical loss ratio has to be
80%. Like it’s a great thing.

Uh, if it’s not 80% they get penalized.
Real teeth on insurance companies.

Uh, I don’t know Bill. It seems to be you are just going to get
some creative accounting like your darn bill 10 years of revenue,
but 7 years of expenditures.

Karl Marx would be proud.

This dude is jumping up and down about 80% percent medical loss
ratio. dude, it’s called an expense ratio in 401(k).
I use Vanguard. You can get the expense ratio of any fund.
Ask them. It’s in their literature. It’s the consumers responsibility.

So now we have to mandate under threat of federal govt.
the insurance companies. I’m the federal government
and I’m going to save you.

RUN AWAY. RUN AWAY>

Bill, you’re killing me.
