Walter Reed, Week 244, 12/18/09

Walter Reed, Week 244, 12/18/09 T’was the Friday Before Christmas

Santa Arrives at Walter Reed

FRONT GATE NOTES T’was the Friday Before Christmas and Santa joined the DC Chapter in Supporting the Troops and their Families.

This past Friday night saw the beginning of what the lame stream media is now calling the great Blizzard of ’09. It began during our Support the Troops Friday night rally and ended early Sunday morning leaving 21 inches on the ground.

But it didn’t scare the DC Chapter of Free Republic away from its 244th consecutive Friday night at the front gates of Walter Reed!

Getting home was slow, but the evening , as always, was worth it.

And it was a very good thing that media weather sensationalist scare tactics don’t affect Freepers, because Santa made a surprise visit to support the troops.

Trooprally sent this eyewitness report of Santa’s presence at Walter Reed this past Friday:

“And then Santa stopped by. I guess Mrs. Santa and their elves at the North Pole have Christmas under control.

Santa was really glad he stopped by tonight. It was a little warm for him though. He said that his beard and cap is for colder weather than this. (Santa doesn’t believe in man-made global warming either)

Santa received a lot of waves from cars passing by. People were rolling down their windows to give Santa a shout out. Santa was especially happy when the kids waved and shouted.

One 3 year old on a metro bus which had stopped at the light, blew kisses to him. Santa responded in kind. The soldiers walking in and out of Walter Reed, also received a big Merry Christmas and a hand shake.”

There were two buses tonight, the smaller VFW bus and the big bus.

Unfortunately the VFW bus has tinted windows so Santa couldn’t see in.

But the big bus had its interior lights on. There were a lot of waves and smiles. A bunch of kids lowered a window and waved and shouted to Santa.

Several loud “Merry Christmas” were heard from Santa.

I’m not sure who was happier, Santa or the kids. I thought I saw a big smile under Santa’s beard and his eyes appeared to be glazed over.

There were a lot of happy faces this night.”

A Welcome Surprise Gift:

Lurker Bill arrived with a welcome surprise, early Christmas gift - heaters that really work!

We were dressed warmly, but Lurker Bill’s heater came in really handy on the northeast corner. It helped take the real cold off those on the corner who were within 4 feet or so. And when the wind stopped blowing the warmth could be felt in their face.

As one battery lost its charge, Lurker bill attached another. Thanks to Lurker Bill, we will be a little warmer this winter, which by the way, begins tomorrow, the 21st.

In this week before Christmas we thank, and pray for our brave soldiers and their families for their service for our country. And may God bless America.

Oh what fun!

Sorry I missed seeing Santa, I haven’t written him a letter this year and could have asked him in person...well too late now.

Lurker Bill you are a great FREEPER. Thank you for doing that for our brave members who are there in all kinds of weather.

Miss you all and will be up from Florida soon to “freeze” with you for an evening.

We, out here on the Left Coast, continue to be amazed at your commitment to our heroes in the face of such inclement weather! Thank you! This hardcoreness is inspirational. Whenever I encounter a troop I mention our rallies, but always make it a point to promote what you folks do. Example is Saturday at Operation Gratitude in Van Nuys, CA where we met the Senior Chief who had been instrumental in getting packages to the troops in Iraq. I told him that you folks are there at Walter Reed regardless of the weather. That even if you have to chip ice off the sidewalks, you are there, and that I had no doubt that you had been there during Friday’s snowstorms. He and his wife were duly impressed.

Operation Gratitude was able to ship to special boxes to mark the 500,000 box shipped! Fox Cable was there to provide a satellite link to the troops worldwide! The Armory was overflowing with folks eager to show their gratitude to our great troops! You can go on the website and see the highlights, and get more info. Every box costs $11.00 to ship, so there is always a need for funds. It’s pretty easy to help in that regard, but utilizing the “Power of One”, one person, one dollar. I put out a jar at work for people to put their spare change, dollars, and any other donation.

All My Best Wishes and of course,
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy New Year!!!!

Thanks for your kind words.

And thank you for Operation Gratitude which is positively
magnificient support for our troops!

We meet and hear from many individuals and groups of their own efforts to show support.

After all, it takes a Nation to support its troops and their families.

God Bless America,
and Merry Christmas to all!

And Lurker Santa even has the politically correct recommended narrower shape!

Good work Santa! Thanks for sharing a Friday night with the great folks at Walter Reed.

Maica

Now that’s funny...

Santa will be glad to hear that comment. He was holding his breath all night for just that slim shot.

Santa?

Yep, Santa sure looks trim and fit. But I’m sure he’ll loose that over the holidays.
