A priest in Britain is under fire Monday for advising his congregation to shoplift in tough economic times, the Daily Mail reports.
Father Tim Jones, a 41-year-old clergyman at St. Lawrence Church in York, England, said that shoplifting rather than prostitution or burglary is sometimes the best option for poor people struggling to make ends meet, according to the Web site.
"My advice as a Christian priest is to shoplift," Jones reportedly told churchgoers during his Sunday sermon. "I do not offer such advice because I think that stealing is a good thing, or because I think it is harmless, for it is neither."

And if you steal from a Muslim store, you’ll get your hand cut off.

Speak the truth in love. Eph 4:15
That's assuming England hasn't changed.
>>My advice does not contradict the Bible’s eighth commandment because God’s love for the poor and despised outweighs the property rights of the rich.”<<
Um, yes it does. No where does it say that it’s okay to steal if you are poor.
Between the Pope’s support of climate change issues, our bishops position on socialized health care, Catholics electing Obama and priests going rogue, I’m starting to get worried about my beloved Church.
Where in the bible does it say that rich people don’t have equal protection under the law?
Idiot! He’s a Pissypalian priest.
You go to a church started by the king to tax his people, you get what you deserve. Next time, try Christ.
What part of
THE 8th COMMANDMENT
Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.
No other Gods
No graven images
Name of Lord in vain
Honor the Sabbath
Honor father /mother
**** Some PRIMITIVE cultures allow fornication because adultery is “STEALING.” - You would have to pay: cows, goats, money etc...
IN GOD’S EYES:
Commandment #6 (murder) SAFEGUARDS = Life
Commandment #7 (adultery) ........................ = FAMILY
Commandment #8 (stealing) ......................... = PROPERTY
Does he not understand.
I wonder if the good priest will bail out his perps? No? Oh what the heck ;-)
A lot of Christmas spirit of joy and love on this site tonight...
It should calm down once they realize he isn’t Catholic.
The Priest clearly is clueless - Thou Shall Not Steal is pretty simple.
Last time I checked Christ was a King, but that aside, the Catholic Church was never started by a king; that’s those “other” guys.
8th Commandment canceled: Priest teaches poor to steal
My take on this from earlier today.
I feel much better knowing he’s one of them an not a Catholic priest. I wish they wouldn’t even refer to “them” as priests.
Back to the seminary and try again...
I can see him at the pearly gates right now trying to explain this to Jesus!!! Haaa!!! I hope they put a big picture of him at big box stores to watch on shoplifting lists!! That’d be hilarious. What a stup!!
And deep ignorance too, but we will let it go: Christmas is drawing nigh.
I think they do it all the time. If it is negative news they will say something about a “Priest” without mentioning he is not a Catholic.
Relax, this had nothing to do with Catholics. It was an Anglican priest.
What piercing logic! Steal from the large national businesses so that price increases will be passed on to the "rest of us".
IOW, Robin Hood steals from the rich so the poor can pay higher costs. Only Robin Hood wins in that game.
Merry Christmas, sionnar, and if I've never posted it before, you are just like Arlin in spirit. And that's one hell of a complement!:D
Yes, and I still haven't finished all I have to do. A little prayer would be very kind, and thank you!
I am honored, sir!
You shall have it. The sionnsar household is in the same straits.
