Jubilant Senate Dems ready to pass health care
Associated Press ^ | December 23, 2009 | Erica Werner

Exultant Senate Democrats prepared to deliver a Christmas Eve win to President Barack Obama with passage of landmark health care legislation that would extend coverage to 30 million Americans.

Powerless to stop it, Republicans stepped up their attacks, contending the sweeping bill threatened to harm Medicare and add billions to the deficit.

"Tomorrow the Senate will vote on a bill that makes a bad situation worse," Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said on the Senate floor Wednesday, the 24th day of debate on the 10-year, nearly $1 trillion bill. "This bill slid rapidly down the slippery slope to more and more government control of health care."

Democrats begged to differ. "Senate Democrats are poised to pass historic health reform legislation on Thursday that will extend affordable, quality coverage to millions of Americans in a fiscally responsible way. Our bill saves lives, saves money and saves Medicare," Senate leaders said in a statement.

At the White House, press secretary Robert Gibbs declared, "Health care reform is not a matter of if, health care reform now is a matter of when."

Obama himself said the Senate legislation accomplishes 95 percent of what he wanted. "Every single criteria for reform I put forward is in this bill," the president told The Washington Post.

But even if the Senate approves the legislation, it can't go to Obama for his signature until Congress resolves differences between the House and Senate versions. Some of them are contentious — especially stricter provisions in the House against using taxpayer money to pay for abortion coverage and the House's income tax increase for high-earning Americans.

Before the final Senate vote, Democrats must get past the last procedural hurdle Wednesday afternoon and put up 60 votes for the last time to cut off debate on the legislation.

"Every single criteria for reform I put forward is in this bill," the president told The Washington Post.

Like the part about not raising the deficit?

Or was it the part about premiums not going up?

Or maybe it was lowering perscription drug costs?

Oh yeah, it improves the quality of care?

Yep! Every single criteria. What a Zero this guy is.

I have never before seen a group of politicians so happy to commit political suicide. I've always known liberals are delusional, living in their own reconstructed history, but this is incredible.

Somehow it will get blamed on the Republicans and Bush.....

The media will repeat the lies daily and we will watch in frustration as we loose another election to ignorance.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

Will be praying for a miracle tomorrow.

All of that will only happen under one instance: A massive repentance and turn to Christ. We have an immoral, godless government because we have an immoral, godless people. The first responsibility if the Church is the preaching of the Gospel to the masses. If the people repent, the rest will follow.

Exactly how is this supposed to be a victory for a party that has a super-majority? They damn sure can not be considering this bill an accomplishment.

A journey starts with one step... that first step is in November... and no one on this site thinks any differently. We must celebrate any victory so that we reinforce the troops for future victories.

Hard to believe the happy mood of death/concentration camp thugs.

But it’s is a good thing to see it and contemplate such obscenity.

When Americans actually get to find out what all this bill is going to cost them..a democrat won’t be able to get elected as dog catcher.

0bama's "core constituency" doesn't care, they don't pay taxes anyway, and by the time the rest figure it out, we'll all be broke and out of work.

Actually, no. I’m not.

And again I cite the example of Fannie Mae: The dems are mainly responsible for the whole “sub-prime” crisis, yet what did it cost them?

Obama won, didn’t he? And we still have dem control of both houses, don’t we.

Yeah, sure, there will be some backlash here or there. But I maintain it won’t change the general direction of this country - which is solidly to the left.

Because it happened under Bush's watch.
0bamacare is under a Democratic House, Democratic Senate, Democratic president. Totally different.

Obama won, didn’t he?”

After McCain had voted for the stimulus and pissed of conservative voters.

And we still have dem control of both houses, don’t we.”

Get back to me on Novemebr 2010 and see if you can make that same claim again.

Yeah, sure, there will be some backlash here or there”,/i>

There is no “hear and there” about it.
The Democrats WILL get slaughtered in next year's congressional elections. It's not even an issue anymore.
The only question is how big the massacre is going to be.

But I maintain it won’t change the general direction of this country - which is solidly to the left.”

Every poll that has conservatives overwhelmingly in the majority in this country, puts a lie to your statement:

“BATTLEGROUND POLL: CONSERVATIVES MAKE UP 63 PERCENT OF AMERICA: WHAT IT ALL MEANS
Here is the latest polling from Battleground. This comes right on the heels of Gallop polling that also shows the majority of Americans consider themselves conservative. This is no fluke either. And as much as we’d love to say that Obama is driving people away from his and his party’s rapidly dying ideology, the truth is Battleground polling, since 2002, has consistently found similar results. Battleground, a bipartisan polling group, has a record of being very accurate.”
