What sort of civil disobedience is acceptable?

Posted on 12/23/2009 12:52:01 PM PST by johngaltspeaks

There is a lot of talk about civil disobedience regarding this healthcare bill. Folks have said they will refuse to purchase into it, thus breaking the law.

A thought I had is, what about the 2010 census. What if we refuse to participate or under/over report our household numbers. If we refuse to obey the census law or just delay would that send a message?

Any federal version of healthcare is unconstitutional since Article 1 Section 8 does not specifically grant Congress the power to regulate health care. Any unconstitutional act by Congress can never become law. Therefore the people are not bound to comply if healthcare should pass Congress.

Hang around here for a week and you might answer your own question. Till then take the safe route and invest in cheese.

I wonder if we’ll get cable in prison?

The irony is they are willing to put people in prison for not paying for health ins. Prisoners get dental plus.

During the last census all I gave them was who was living here in my house.. 1 male, 3 females (wife & two kids). They came back numerous times trying to get me to fill out the long form etc and I refused. I said NO several times and finally kicked the off my property...

Screw em...

Interesting question noob, but what does this have to do with Tiger Woods cheating on his wife? We have priorities here, ya know.

And before anyone asks or infers that I am calling for violence against politicians, NO, I am NOT. I prefer they be dragged from office, suits ripped from them, thrown into the streets, and Police informed some perv was hanging out near such-and-such a building.

I just wonder if such a defense were ever offered for murder of a political figure.

Civil disobedience involves a willingness to go to prison, if necessary, rather than comply with what is considered to be an unjust law.

If sufficiently widespread, this civil disobedience will so clog and fill the courts and prisons, that the very basis of economics that supports this unjust regime goes into utter collapse, thus causing the anarchy under which no government can survive.

You are required by law to be truthful when answering the census. According to Title 13, Chapter 7, Subtitle 2, anyone who willfully gives an answer that is false could be fined up to $500. You are not required to be helpful. Clinton used that defense, and the socialists who call themselves democrats accepted it when the sleaze (and, disgusting as he was, Obama makes me miss Clinton) used it.

1. How many people living ... [I answer this one truthfully and in a helpful manner, since that is the question they are charged by the Constitution with asking].

2. Any additional people staying here ... [Same status as #1].

3. Owned, rented, occupied ... [I plan on misunderstanding this one; none of their business, so truthful but not helpful].

4. telephone number [again, my answer may not be helpful, but I can eventually be reached through the number at my gym].

5. names ... [I’ll probably answer].

6. sex for each person ... [I’ll probably answer].

7. age and date of birth ... [undecided - is this their business?].

8. Hispanic, Latino, ... [I’ll have fun with this].

9. Race ... [None of their business! But I’m required to answer so “OTHER” - “human”].

10. Sometimes live or stay elsewhere ... [again, I’ll play with them; I’ve stayed a lot of places].

If they send me the long form, which they did for the 2000 Census, I’ll really mess with them.

At some point you've just got to take a stand. How much more of this crap are you eager to swallow?

If you don't do anything they think you approve of things. They are already saying that we will change our minds when we get used to the idea. What about you?

I would think that somewhere in the Dem playbook, it is a "right" to have such things in prison.

Ooops, what am I thinking, were destined for the Gulag, not club fed.

In 2000, we refused to fill in the “race” box.
They called, they visited, I told them I refused to answer that question.

As they were leaving I said “and don’t you fill it in for me by looking at me, I’ll sue you if I find out you did”.

Refuse overtime if you are paid hourly. Cut back your business if you are a business owner. Don’t buy anything you don’t NEED. Give to religious charities.

In other words, reduce your taxable income and help others reduce theirs. (Based on your name, you already know this.)

Anything else is just an empty gesture—unless you can get others to join in. But, the sad reality is that the elite in DC really don’t give a damn what you and I do.

If we just make some noise, it’s just harmless buzzing to them. If we do something big enough to be noticed, then there’s probably a law or two being broken and you’ll be punished to the full extent of the law. Don’t expect the kind of “catch and release with a smirk and slap on the back” treatment that liberal protestors get when they chain themselves to a bulldozer, have a sit-in, or block a train full of radioactive material.

We need more Tea Parties and they need to start getting scary.

Jim

The prospect of conservatives engaging in civil disobedience may ultimately prompt the liberals to do something they would never before have supported: Build more prisons. That, and ban former prisoners who’ve served their time from having their rights restored.

But let’s be honest... They are more likely to empty the prisons of rapists and murderers to make room for the tax cheats.

Cuz I get the feeling that there will be a LOT of us there.

I will go willingly and once I am released I will go again.
