December 23, 2009 Reid: Real People Understand The Urgency For Health Reform

Washington, D.C.—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor this afternoon. Below are his remarks as prepared for delivery:

“The health care votes we have held this week have been procedural in nature. Each has been a party-line vote. And much of this debate has focused on politics.

“But health reform is not about procedure, or partisanship, or politics.

“It is about people. People like the thousands who write us every day. A small, small fraction of those letters are right here on my desk.

“Each one of these letters represents a story, a tragedy, a life, a death – a person. People who wake up every morning and struggle to get health care or struggle to hold on to it. People who lie awake every night second-guessing the agonizing decisions they have to make about what to sacrifice just to stay healthy.

“Here’s a letter that was written to Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania:

‘Dear Senator Casey: In a country like the United States, we shouldn’t need a tip jar at an ice cream shop to raise money for a kid with leukemia.’

“Here’s what another one of these letters says – a plea that a father in North Las Vegas, Nevada sent to me:

‘Can you imagine what it’s like to have a doctor look you in the eye while you hold your one-year-old child and tell you that you will likely outlive your son? I am certain my story is not unique. But it is real.

‘Stop forcing Americans to use the most expensive point of service – the emergency room – to get what the system won’t give them.

‘Let’s make all Americans equal in the eyes of health care. Please.’

“This is not about the number of pages in this bill. It is about the number of people whom this bill will help.”

It is indeed urgent that a majority are shown the dangers of theft by government so that we can finally put a stop to it with term limits.

People like the thousands who write us every day.

What a load of BS. The "thousands" he refers to are from the rank and file SEIU, ACORN, NEA, and assorted Democratic shills that have always sucked at the government teat.

How often have these "sob" stories been investigated only to find that they are bogus? Tip jar for the leukemia child? Walk over to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and ask for help; the caveat being they do a financial impact statement on the family and ask them to contribute money that normally goes out for movies, restaurants and the occasional crack hit.

My father had an Aortic Aneurism repaired. We never saw a bill. I had an Inner Ear Infection that caused my Blood Pressure to go so high I almost had a Cerabral Hemmorage. I stayed over night. never saw a bill. My follow-up visit to my PCP cost me a $20 copay. We have different health plans. Are we so lucky to have the only two health plans that cover their customers? I doubt it.

These guys are total phoneys. They know it is about buying political control and making fortunes for themselves and their cronies. Don’t be fooled by their bs for a moment.

If they believed any of this they would have held hearings to hear from common people and from experts. They wouldn’t have had Harry Reid write a new health care system on tp in the senate restroom.

If you read some of the gory details about certain cancer hospitals in the house bill, places like Dana Farber and Shriners Burns will be gone. No fee for service is allowed. Just like in HillaryCare. No raising money. No Jimmy Fund.

Health care reform is "so urgent" for Dingy Harry, he's delaying its inauguration until 2014!

In Harry Reid’s world, we’re NOT real people. We faceless drones who live in flyover country. “Real” people work for the media or the Federal government.

Sorry, I but I just gotta vent...

I have had it past the tippy ends of the hairs on tippy top of my head with lying; sack of stenchy, tepid excrement politicans like Scary Reid and Co. who think they can buy job security with our tax dollars by stoking and feeding on the selfishness of free loading, sit on their butts and whine, sorriest excuses for citizens who want everything handed to them off the backs of others so they can keep their nice new Obama mobile, the Iphone, Ipod and cable TV they use to partcipate in Keith Olberman’s orgasmic fantasies of The One.

I was a single mom for years. I worked my rear off, with between 2-3 jobs at a time to provide for my daughter, educate myself, and have everything I needed to feel like a responsible human being. I did without extras so I could have decent health insurance, among other quite unexciting kinds of necessities like a rainy day fund — all while paying taxes and doing what I thought was my share.

I’ve listened to “The Washington Journal” on C-SPAN and heard middle-aged women, among others, calling in, bashing republicans, demanding the health care that the members of congress get, as if it’s just too hard to get for themselves and I have extremely evil thoughts about them. It’s one thing to take a few bucks from me for old people, although I really don’t know what their excuse for lack of planning is; que serah serah, but when it goes so far as to get into my business for people who have many productive years ahead of them and attempts to regulate my own personal choices, it is crossing the line of barely palatable indecency to the all out offensiveness of a forced body cavity search.

Kindof a contradiction there, with the thousands who write every day, but a small, small fraction are on his desk. The thousands who write everyday are most likely people who are against, but he chooses to read the small, small fraction from libnuts.

It’s urgent so the public doesn’t get wise to what their trying to do. Each minute of delay exposes them more and more.
If this was such a good deal why are they hiding the contents of the bill, why the super urgency to get it passed. Methinks there is more skulldugery here than meets the eye. This who;e health care issue is a bunch of crap like much more of what the dems are trying to force down the throats of an unaware
public. The more people begin to understand what this bill is about the more they don’t like it, therein lies the rush.
