HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Now that the healthcare bill has passed both houses, president Obama and his family started their holiday vacation.
The family left Andrews Air Force base this morning and they are expected to arrive at Hickam Air Force base this afternoon.
But aides to the First Lady say Bo, the White House dog, is not accompanying the Obamas on their family vacation in Hawaii.
The aides did not give a reason, but Hawaii has strict rules about dogs and pets entering the state and requires either a 120-day or 5-day-or-less rabies quarantine.
The Obamas will be spending 11 days on vacation in Hawaii.
And if all goes as planned, HawaiiNewsNow will be reporting "live" from Hickam Air Force base when the president and his family arrive this afternoon on air and online at Hawaiinewsnow.com.
Gibbs is staying in Washington, then?
Leaving that poor dog at home when I am sure Obama could have pulled some strings and received an exemption for the dog’s quarantine.
I know a family who had to have their dog shipped after they moved there.
But that this dog’s name is BO is so bizarre. Why are right wingers the only ones who acknowledge this man’s twisted narcissism?
Something is wrong here....they let him in, but not the dog????????
Muslims hate dogs, they’re unclean vermin.
The girls surely had friends in Chicago...Then again...Perhaps they weren't allowed to socialize...Might bump into a conservative family???
but Hawaii has strict rules”
Since when do they follow RULES?
Maybe the dog’s last name is Snerdly.
Kinda pasty for a ...well you know...
Q Do you have a reading list for this next couple weeks? What’s he going to read, who’s he going to visit with, how much golf is he going to play?
MR. BURTON: When I said that there were no scheduled public events, there also aren’t a lot of scheduled private events. I think the President is going to wake up and see where the day takes him. I’ve checked out the forecast for the entire time we’re there: tomorrow it’s 81 and sunny; Friday it’s 81 and sunny; Saturday it’s 81 and sunny. So I think that the weather ought to lend itself to some outdoor activity.
Q But what is he going to do on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? I mean, how does the First Family spend those days?
MR. BURTON: I don’t know specifically what’s on their agenda this year. They obviously have dinner together and there’s exchanging of presents. They’ll enjoy some of the same traditions that they’ve enjoyed over the past years when they go to Hawaii. They see some of their friends. There will be some friends from Chicago who come, like the Nesbitts and the Whitakers. And I think he’ll just try to enjoy Christmas the way his family has traditionally enjoyed it. This is an opportunity for the President to recharge his batteries, knowing that as President you never really get to power off all the way.
At first glance, I thought this headline verified he had left Hillary in Washington.
While millions are out of work.
Look at Prince William....He actually got himself a box and went to live with the homeless for a day.
Two leaders...The difference between caring and not giving a damn.
Sure miss President Bush.
Has Obama been to Afghanistan this year???
We have a Family Christmas:
Not in their own home with their own tree.
Not going to Church.
Not bringing their Dog.
Just what everyone wants at Christmastime. No home, No Jesus and not even your “beloved” Pet.
So, why is this a story? The dog couldn't go.
At least the dog has all his papers!
