Imagine the outrage if any Republican President went on vacation during a recession and spent $4,000 a night on accommodations. On ABCs Good Morning America Wednesday, correspondent Yunji de Nies seemed to suggest that President Obamas family will be spending such an amount renting expensive living space at an estate house in Hawaii for a two-week Christmas vacation. De Nies: "Christmas trees here aren't cheap neither is staying in this $8.9 million house, which runs $4,000 a night. The Obamas rented this one and the two next door for family and friends. When you spend that kind of money, people pay attention to detail."

Years ago I bought a timeshare in Hawaii.
I can’t afford to go there anymore, so I save up the points for a local place I can get to by Harley and STILL have a lovely time.

The media would crucify Bush if he did this; however, as long as he pays for the vacation with his own money it is his right.

He hasn’t given a real press conf. in months.
The TV theme “movin’ on up” keeps going through my head.
To: samtheman
If a Republican even remotely tried to live in opulence like Obama, the press would have a field day trashing them.
To: Nachum
Perhaps I've missed it in the news but I'm curious if the Obamas have or plan to attend a church service this Christmas or anytime?

The really sad part is that all the Secret Service agents who have to accompany him will be spending Christmas and New Years away from their families. If obozo had stayed in the White House they could have seen them. How thoughtful of the Messiah to leave DC at Christmas.

They keep saying he always vacationed there. When he visited sick and dying Grandma (August), he said he hadn’t been there in 18, 19 months....and I believe he noted that grandma had never met his girls...so you tell me....

Who DOES actually pay for these extravagances? Does it come out of their millions or do we get dicked again?
To: martinidon
How did he get there? Air Force One, the Secret Service, AF C-5s for support etc. This trip cost taxpayers, hundreths of thousands of dollars.
To: Nachum

And of course the dumb news report doesn’t point out that IT ISN’T HIS MONEY-— he is spending taxpayer dollars.
May I point out that this type of extravagence is what led to the French Revolution and the beheading of monarchs?

I was wondering the same thing...I asked the family last night after we had exchanged presents and were sitting around talking. No one had heard any report on it. One responded, 'He's a Christian, though' and I replied 'I could say I'm from the planet Krypton but saying it doesn't make it true'.
We all agreed to keep an eye on the news...I have the advantage 'cause I'm on FR!

Millions of dollars, not hundreds of thousands.
Wonder where the stories are comparing Obama’s vacation time to George Bush's vacation time? The same for his golf games or White House parties for the rich and connected. Merry Christmas!
To: martinidon
as long as he pays for the vacation with his own money it is his right.Did you mean for that to be sarcasm?

I wish Jesus could talk to him and those around him and open their heart Jesus has said everything he needed to say already. All one has to do is read it. I have no reason to believe that Obama and company will ever read the Bible and seek truth.

And all the MSM criticism of George Bush for spending too much time at his Texas ranch, which he owned. Bush even made accommodations for secret service and guests with his own money. Note contrary to prophet of carbon doom, Al Gore’s mansion, Bush’s Crawford ranch was energy efficient and even recycled water.

You're right...the point I was trying (unsuccessfully!) to make was that actions speak louder than words, meaning that I haven't seen too many outward demonstrations of Christianity from the Obamas. They had to have their arms twisted to put the nativity scene up at the White House, for example.
Merry Christmas!

Yes, it’s fine if Obama spends his own money, but, what about the carbon footprint of Air Force One and the entourage that accompanies the president wherever he goes? I thought that to be a good liberal, we have to worry about our carbon footprint and saving the planet and all that stuff. Does Obama buy carbon credits?
