Jet fliers tackle bomber: Al Qaeda plot foiled in skies over Mich.

An al Qaeda terrorist tried to blow up a plane packed with Christmas travelers yesterday as it was about to land in Detroit -- but was thwarted by heroic passengers who tackled the madman, authorities said.

The 23-year-old Nigerian suffered serious burns, and at least two other passengers were injured in the terrifying violence aboard the Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam.

"This could have been catastrophic," Rep. Peter King (R-LI) told Fox News. "We were lucky."

President Obama, on vacation in Hawaii, ordered his national security team to ensure that "all appropriate measures be taken to increase security for air travel," the White House said.

Good thing for them I am not in charge. I do not have that much patience or compassion.

"This could have been catastrophic," Rep. Peter King (R-LI) told Fox News. "We were lucky."

Yes we were lucky. We weren’t good, we weren’t smart.

We were lucky that the bomb maker of the user were incompetent.

We were lucky because we have chosen to leave our best anti-terrorist tools in the tool box because we are afraid to use that tool.

We are too afraid to offend the sensibilities of certain minorities. Yes I mean Muslims and blacks.

Political correctness has made us leave the tool of profiling in the tool box. Passenger screeners could devote more of their valuable time on individuals more likely to be a terrorist and there by make air travel safer.

We know what kind of person is the most likely to be a terrorist. That person would be a male Muslim between the ages of 17 and 45.

Why are we leaving this most valuable tool in the tool box collecting dust?

He had a one way ticket! A Nigerian with a one way ticket whose name happens to be Abdul. Like he’s not going to just stay. Is there any border security at all in the States? We just trust any Muslim wandering in. What a mess!

So, are these ‘jet fliers who tackled the bomber” going to get the same treatment our Navy Seals are receiving, I wonder?

Will the DA in Michigan be hauling them in front of the Grand Jury for causing the burns on ol Abdullah’s body? After all the device was supposed to go off, not burn, so are these holiday travelers culpable here - maybe more so than our sailors?

Maybe the Holder Justice Dept will be publishing rules of engagement for airline travlers in the near future.

Our idea of justice - ever since the adults left the gov’t -is simply FUBAR.

the suspect may have had contact with a radical imam, Anwar Al Awlaki, who has ties to the suspected shooter in the Fort Hood killings.

Hey Zero, can you say TERRORISM?

From your excellent link -

2 plots in New York
4 dead policemen in Washington State
servicemen killed in Arkansas recruiting office
14 dead Servicemen and women in Ft. Hood(1 unborn baby)
and today’s attempt to blow a plane

Make that 278 passengers on the plane. And however many crew. And then if he had ignited it at the terminal and if it had gone off as intended, who knows how many more on the ground.

"Yes we were lucky. We weren’t good, we weren’t smart."

Lucky??? You mean the White House hasn't yet claimed that Obama personally gave the passengers the order to tackle the potential human-caused disaster guy and foiled the plot?

Well, I'm sure the truth will out someday and The One will rightfully be made a hero. Gotta keep the sheen on that Peace Prize, doncha know?

Sounds to me like AQ watched an episode of Mythbusters about how certain alkali metals as sodium and potassium react with water.

Hopefully the airports will adjust the sniffers for this.

Shouldn't that be "Islam-Caused Disaster"?

CNN is doing its best to walk this back this morning:

Nigerian in custody after alleged airline terror act foiled

They do have a few more facts, though, such as:

The sources told CNN that the suspect flew into Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on a KLM flight from Lagos, Nigeria, and is not believed to be on any "no fly" list, although his name does appear in a U.S. database of people with suspect connections. He did not undergo secondary security screening in Amsterdam, an administration official said.

Interesting, since, according to Congressman King, quoted in The Hill, "There's a real worry about terrorist activity in Nigeria, so much so that last year the American government gave body detection technology to Nigeria for their airports".. . "Their level of security, we felt was not comperable to others."

And, in spite of his name appearing "a U.S. database of people with suspect connections," an administration official quoted by CNN poo-pooed those connections: "there was no evidence that Abdulmutallab was a hard-core, trained member of al Qaeda."

"Another passenger on the Northwest flight transferred from the same KLM flight in Amsterdam but officials found no connection between the two, the sources said."

On behalf of Janet Napalitano and the democratic party I want to assure all muslims everywhere that we will be cracking down on all anti-muslim acts of violence that will most certainly occur shortly. Furthermore I will be visiting a nearby mosque because that is what all foolish politicians do after these attacks/attempted attacks occur.

Remember tolerance is spelled DHIMMITUDE.

Political correctness, which is going to get many of us killed, is a worldwide phenomenon.

Digust and hatred of political correctness, is also a worldwide phenomenon.

Fellow Freepers, Lurkers, Fellow Americans, just check in with what some of the British are saying about this situation involving one of these Muslim "youths" studying in one of their universities in London, on his way to kill nearly 300 people or more in Detroit yesterday (from UK newspaper, 26 December / Online Times):

Michael Jenkins wrote: Aren't we lucky that the teaching at UCL is so bad that he couldn't rig his detonator correctly? Fortunately he was an engineering student and not doing interior design.

December 26, 2009 11:40 AM GMT PAUL LAMBERT wrote: Hopefully this will encourage the US to put real pressure on the UK to finally tighten up it's border controls in a meaningful way as opposed to the lip service that is currently paid. December 26, 2009 11:06 AM GMT

Nova Prosper wrote: Lets not get distracted here, the main priority the country faces, is that we don't let the Tories reinstate fox hunting. Sorting out all the terrorists residing in our universities can come second ,third or more likely never.

Darren G wrote: Another 'student' that Labour let into our country i see. No more student visas should be issued until Labour are booted from power next year.

L S.A wrote: I agree airport security in Lagos, Nigeria is little more than a joke but what about at Amsterdam where this crazy guy boarded the plane. As a young man travelling alone, he should have been profiled and double checked anyway!!!

Memosa Spring wrote: What I don't understand is that hsould I happen to have an ingrown toe nail while I'm travelling somehow the security screening picks that up! How can it not pick up what he was carrying? I know Nigeria quite well. Security there is a joke. Just give a gaurd a cheap ball point pen and they'll let you into the departure lounge with whatever you want! Give them just one USA $ and they'll give you a box of matches ot go with it! Those who know Nigerian airports- especially LAGOS will know exactly what I'm saying.

Richard Beardsley wrote: Geoff POwell: the fact that he boarded a plane somewhere else is not the issue, yes the Americans could have kept a better tab on him but how many "students" are currently exploring the UK and taking an interest in the architecture of large important buildings. How many students are not studying? What is the average attendance in class? You would do nothing to harm the UK, neither would I. However not everyone has the same ideals. The underfunded army is doing what it can but this current problem makes the Irish problem fade into insignificance.

Geoff POwell wrote: Why don't you people read the article properly. He flew from Nigeria, the fact that he's studying at a British university has no relevance here at all. US intelligence knew about him, he was flying on a US airline and he changed in Amsterdam. The UK authorities have no part in the failure to stop this guy.

Richard Beardsley wrote: I love reading the Times beacause there are things covered that are not published in Australian sites and it's good to know what is happening elsewhere. This is worrying when the average bloke can see a pattern occurring here. Student from overseas, already on a watchlist, extremely religious, why is the UK so weak in naning and shaming these groups. Have we got so bogged down in Human Rights issues that we dare not offend a minority religious group that the majority of people in the UK already know who they are. The whole backbone of what used to be British has gone. No I'm not a fanatic or bigot, just seeing how the UK is when viewed from another country. Wake up before it's too late, if it's not already."
