Kwanzaa celebrations continue, but boom is over
Independent Mail (Anderson, SC) ^ | 26 December 2009 | Charmaine Smith-Miles

Posted on 12/26/2009 6:21:04 AM PST by Vigilanteman

ANDERSON — Romando James, a professor emeritus at Clemson University, understands the traditions and purpose of Kwanzaa. He also knows he is among a minority of people who know what the cultural celebration is about.

“We celebrate the first fruits, responsibility to community,” James said. “But when the mass of television and radios and even hip hop artists see there’s no big returns coming in, it just doesn’t happen.”

In essence, because of the lack of understanding and the ability to make money of it, the celebration is losing some if its popularity, James said.

Take Evita Broughton. Four years ago, she celebrated Kwanzaa for the first time with her family — lighting a candle each night and discussing the respective principle.

But she hasn’t celebrated the holiday since.

A junk holiday dreamed up by a guy who tortured a woman tied to a chair.

The original waterboarder:

(")In 1971, Karenga, Louis Smith, and Luz Maria Tamayo were convicted of felony assault and false imprisonment for assaulting and torturing over a two day period two women from the US Organization, Deborah Jones and Gail Davis.[7] An article in the Los Angeles Times described the testimony of one of the women: "Deborah Jones, who once was given the title of an African queen, said she and Gail Davis were whipped with an electrical cord and beaten with a karate baton after being ordered to remove their clothes. She testified that a hot soldering iron was placed in Miss Davis' mouth and placed against Miss Davis' face and that one of her own big toes was tightened in a vise. Karenga, head of US, also put detergent and running hoses in their mouths, she said".(")

“a fake holiday created by a genuine racist”

An “alternative to Christmas,” kwanzaa was dreamed up in 1966 by Ronald Everett, aka “Dr. Maulana Karenga”, a convicted felon who became chairman of the Black Studies Dept. at California State, Long Beach. He is a Communist and militant Black separatist, who has made a fine living for these many decades off the CA taxpayer as a parasite on the body politic. His phony African celebration is observed at universities, where such political parasitism is admired and protected.

Since I don't feel any particular ethnic identification, I decided after reading about Kwanzaa this year that I would revive the ancient Egyptian festival of Bast in October, extending the holiday season a few weeks before Halloween. This will be inclusive, all will be welcome to join who have any appreciation of Bast or felines generally, and there will be no weird borrowings from other traditions as Kwanzaa does...

The fake holiday, celebrated by a half-million hard-core racists and maybe three times that many people taken in by the advertising (maybe 5% of all American blacks) has had numerous postage stamps issued in its honor.

Have you ever seen a postage stamp honoring Easter or Lent, celebrated by a mere 85% or so of the rest of us?

Isn't it interesting, though, that what is killing this holiday (besides the fact that it was made up) was what is outlined below in the article.

Mayes said the black power movement was the “engine” for Kwanzaa, and the holiday faded as the movement receded. It started amid talk of revolution, but “in the ’90s and in the 21st century, it’s no longer referenced that way,” Mayes said. “It’s all about inclusion, diversity, good will, multiculturalism.”

We have one nutball left wing atheist English instructor at my college that tried to get a Festivus celebration going a few years ago. He sent out a couple of emails trying to drum up support. After that, I never heard anything.

Other than a few jokes around the Christmas season here on FR, I never hear anything about it anymore.

What they really want is a segregated holiday celebration to mimic the one that began the whole "holiday season," Christmas. From what I understand, Hannukah (or however you spell it) is a relatively minor Jewish religious observation, yet non-Jews tend to see it as an "equal but different" Christmas. Then there's Ramadan -- didn't see much hype over that this year, but in the past I've seen the MSM try to pan it off as sort of the Muslim's version of Christmas. I mean after all, they all -- Ramadan, Christmas, and Hannukah -- fall around the same time of year; can't we all just get along?

So this phoney-baloney Kwanzaa is clearly a "me, too!" version for black Americans. They sure as hell don't celebrate it Africa, and never have.

I hope the majority of black Americans are sensible enough to reject the hoax being used to manipulate them.
