Skip to comments.Napolitano: The “System Worked”..Even Though A Bomb Made It Through Security

Gotta agree with Jonah here....fire Napolitano.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up an Amsterdam-Detroit airline flight Christmas Day demonstrated that "the system worked."
Asked by CNN's Candy Crowley on "State of the Union" how that could be possible when the young Nigerian who has been charged with trying to set off the bomb was able to smuggle explosive liquid onto the jet, Napolitano responded: "We're asking the same questions."
Napolitano added that there was "no suggestion that [the suspect] was improperly screened."
The system worked? You have to be joking. How can she claim it worked when a man was able to get a bomb on board a plane and almost set it off were it not for a bad detonator and some heroic passengers?

I watched smarmy Gibbs on Fox this morning. He blamed Bush in all but name. He said that it this incident was possible because of “old policies” that were in place. Blaming others is the stock-and-trade of the Obummer administration.

How stupid does this dolt think the American public is?
The system DID NOT WORK and luckily neither did the bomb.
Moron. Hire the mentally handicapped.
Just another insane, delusional Dim.
she was disgusting. Didn't answer a single question. Just beat around the bush with vague responses and "I won't speculate".
“the only thing that worked were some really pissed off passengers that stopped the dirt bag from succeeding.”
2 things..........the bomb failed!!!!
She really should have been removed from office months ago after sending out the bulletin to watch them white “TEA BAGGERS” as terror suspects, and then there was the bulletin after the Major Hassan thing to tell HSA to be on the look out for backlash against Muslims.
Now we have this fiasco.
She has to go.
Well, you have to view it from their point of view. The bomber made it onboard with the bomb and went through with the act. It was an engineering failure that did not allow the bomb to go off. Now new rules are being instituted so that passengers can’t leave their seats and interfere with terrorists plans to blow up infidels. The “system” will work even better for Napolitano and Obama now.
The "system" was basically just a bunch of ordinary people who tackled the guy and apprehended him.
So, yeah -- I guess "the system" really did work. But we don't need a Department of Homeland Security with a mediocre dyke running it if this is the kind of security we're going to rely upon.
Delusional, nothing worked because people we to PC to do what they were supposed to do. Only passengers prevented a disaster. PC will kill us and already has killed 14 soldiers and an unborn, I’m sure many more that FReepers are aware of too...
Not the American public, just their "base."

Unfortunatly, it resonates with the great unwashed.
Wow, I can’t understand what I wrote. Oh well, FReepers know what we all mean.
The system worked because a passenger jumps this guy??? You’ve got to be kidding me....
I work for TSA/DHS, and the airports overseas have their own screening. To my knowledge, TSA does not have oversight of the Amsterdam airport, and therefore couldn’t take blame or credit, either way.
That being said, Secretary Napliano’s comments are pretty silly, and the fact is that this guy was approved for flight here despite warnings and being on the terror watch list is disconcerting.
Good gawd....Is the big dyke serious????
At last report, those rules are airline-only, not government-instigated.
I think there is no end to how much this administration can lie and distort reality...
