Mitchell Hails Success of 'Obama Doctrine,' Palin's Wallace-Like Appeal 'Does Frighten Me'
Newsbusters.org ^ | 12-27-2009 | Brent Baker

Posted on 12/27/2009 4:38:19 PM PST by raybbr

As the lone journalist on Sunday's Meet the Press roundtable (with Newt Gingrich, Michael Bloomberg and Deval Patrick), NBC's Andrea Mitchell insisted the “Obama Doctrine” has “borne fruit,” but “it is not perceived yet” -- though the President has already “united the world behind the United States.”

Citing all those who “camped out” for the Sarah Palin book signings, Mitchell denigrated her appeal as evidence of how “they are so hungry for a symbol for anyone who can give them answers” it shows “there's an anger out there” she hasn't seen since George Wallace in 1968. And that, she maintained, “is the angry populism which is not fact-based, it's just furious at everybody; angry at Democrats, at Republicans.” (Apparently, favoring conservative policies and rejecting liberal big government spending is “not fact-based.”)

Ruing “the tea party has higher numbers in our last NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll than either of the other traditional parties,” Mitchell, NBC's chief foreign affairs correspondent and host of MSNBC's weekday 1 PM EST hour, declared that “does frighten me.” While she acknowledged “this spirit of America is so large and embracing,” she feared “there is an angry subtext because of economic dislocation that is very, very worrisome.”

Poor Andrea. I don't know how she sleeps at night with all of us Tea Party goers giving her nightmares.

I actually was looking for Bloomberg's quotes from this round table.

This is what I was looking for:

BLOOMBERG: Well, the economy has certainly turned around. It’s stopped going down and it’s slowly coming back, and it’ll be a long time before we get to where we were three years ago. But you talk about the last decade, and, and Andrea brought up 9/11 as sort of the defining moment of that decade. There are two things that we did not work on and, in fact, one have gone the wrong direction during the last decade, which will dictate the economy for the next decade, and that’s immigration and education.

BLOOMBERG: And education -- and Newt’s been out there campaigning around the country. The president says it’s number one priority for him, he’s got Arne Duncan , who’s a great secretary of Education, working on it. But unless we give our young people the kind of education to compete in the global world, we cannot survive...

PATRICK: Hear, hear.

BLOOMBERG: ... certainly can’t survive with the -- with the kind of jobs we want, with the benefits we want for our people.

And immigration, we’re committing what I call national suicide. Somehow or other, after 9/11 we went from reaching out and trying to get the best and the brightest to come here, to trying to keep them out. In fact, we do the stupidest thing, we give them educations and then don’t give them green cards.

Somehow Bloomberg got "immigration reform" mixed in with the the insurance reform bill.

“Andrea who?”

The liar. You know, the one NBC didn’t want to testify at the Scooter Libby trial. So they sent their attorney to sit behind Patrick Fitzgerald.

I don't entirely disagree with Bloomberg on this part. We are being idiotic when we educate that world's brightest minds who are invited here to enjoy the best education available, then we kick them out out of some misplaced fear of competition - while at the same time allowing the dumbest of the dumb to pour into our country unabated through our US/Mexican border.

He makes a valid point about keeping the talent that we've educated, but he forgets the other salient part of the equation. We should retain those who graduate from US schools, especially those graduating with advance science & engineering degrees. If those people are encouraged to return to India and China, it only hurts us in the long run.

Poor thing has it all wrong.

There is an angry MAJORITY because of the lack of accountability of our elected officials, the lack of representation of over HALF of our LEGAL citizens, the lack of concern for the safety and well being of We the People from another terrorist attack and the steady march towards socialism/communism that seems to be gaining speed on ALL fronts.

Go ahead dumba$$ and keep blaming the economy. Keep getting it wrong.

From her wiki entry: Mitchell graduated with a B.A. in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967, where she served as News Director of student radio station WXPN. She joined Philadelphia then-NBC affiliate KYW radio and KYW-TV as a reporter that same year...

Unless she was covering presidential campaigns her first year out of college she has NO professional memory of the Wallace campaign.

So, she's not even a good liar.

Actually this was the quote I was looking for from Bloomberg:

Instead, we talk about other things, some laudable, some desperately that we have to do. And I will say, I’ve given the president a lot of credit for taking on the issue; but it’s Congress that’s writing this legislation, and they are not willing to go near the things that will contain costs, which is immigration reform, tort reform, asking the question of whether or not we can afford certain tests and whether they really are cost-beneficial.

How he ties immigration reform (basically opening the gates) with keeping down costs of health care is beyond me.

Bloomberg's other quote (that you agreed with) is a dodge. That's not the hot button issue that immigration reform is. He lumps them all together and uses the broad brush to hide his real intent - giving illegals (of which there must hundreds of thousands in NY city) a path to citizenship. That is something he has espoused in the past.

PHILADELPHIA — The economy of the country's largest city and the entire nation would collapse if illegal immigrants were deported en masse, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg told a Senate committee hearing Wednesday.

New York City is home to more than 3 million immigrants, and a half-million of them came to this country illegally, Bloomberg testified.
From here....

Excellent!
We want the radical left wing lunatics like Andrea Mitchel to continue to have nightmares every night, and wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, over the specter of a very angry American populace, led by the Tea Parties, descending on Washington, and sweeping the criminal gang of Reid, Pelosi and 0bozo out of power, and then lining them up for trial for crimes against humanity, before sending them to hell where they belong.

She's obviously talking about how the Great 0bama has the world so “united behind the United States.” that the moment 0bozo showed up in Copenhagen, the “world” immediately voted for 0bozo’s Chicago homeland to hold the Olympics games.
Oh wait...the world actually humiliated the Narcissist in Chief by voting Chicago OUT in the very first round.

"Bloomberg's other quote (that you agreed with) is a dodge."

I'm not saying it isn't, nor am I saying it has anything to do with so-called health care reform. But, the statement in and of itself is accurate - it is stupid to invite a bright mind to the US to be educated for 4 to 10 years, then to kick him/her out as soon as they graduate and their student visa expires. It's silly and not very far-sighted. America needs that intellectual talent to move forward into this century.

The only thing that is keeping America afloat right now is our ingenuity and leadership position in the technological, medical and other scientific/engineering fields. The moment we lose that competitive advantage, we're become another also-ran country, with no possibility of digging ourselves out from under this mountain of debt.
