U.S. Widens Terror War to Yemen, a Qaeda Bastion (now NYT calls it the war on terror!)
NYT ^ | 12/27/09 | By ERIC SCHMITT and ROBERT F. WORTH

In the midst of two unfinished major wars, the United States has quietly opened a third, largely covert front against Al Qaeda in Yemen.

A year ago, the Central Intelligence Agency sent several of its top field operatives with counterterrorism experience to the country, according a former top agency official. At the same time, some of the most secretive Special Operations commandos have begun training Yemeni security forces in counterterrorism tactics, senior military officers said.

The Pentagon is spending more than $70 million over the next 18 months, and using teams of Special Forces, to train and equip Yemeni military, Interior Ministry and coast guard forces, more than doubling previous military aid levels.

As American investigators sought to corroborate the claims of a 23-year-old Nigerian man that Qaeda leaders in Yemen had trained and equipped him to blow up a Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines jet on Christmas Day, the plot casts a spotlight on the Obama administration’s complicated relationship with Yemen.

The country has long been a refuge for jihadists, in part because Yemen’s government welcomed returning Islamist fighters who had fought in Afghanistan during the 1980s. The Yemen port of Aden was the site of the audacious bombing of the American destroyer Cole in October 2000 by Qaeda militants, which killed 17 sailors.

But Qaeda militants have made much more focused efforts

Unfortunately the criminal media and the WH saw that the only thing that made as*hat’s poll numbers go up was A-stan etc. So now they will pretend to be hawks. It’s all politics, whereas with W. we can actually say there was genuine anti-terror ideology at play.

I hope I live to see a day when no Obama (Michelle included) is in the WH. He disgusts me. Most people who become president have pretty big egos but his is intolerable.

I hope to live to see that day and the day that people who are liberals through and through stop calling themselves Republicans. I have watched several people on my FB, who list themselves as Republicans, make one political remark after another that is pure liberal BS. Not one single issue are they conservative on. Barely fiscally conservative and can’t make a coherent argument. I swear they only list Republican to serve as an embarrassment to the party. To make us look stupid. I know a liberal democrat when I see one, regardless of what they claim to be. I loathe the ones masquerading as Republicans more than the ones being honest about what jackasses they are. At-least they are honest about being jackasses.

I don’t understand why anyone would bother pretending to be conservative. What would be the benefit?

No, listing themselves as Republicans, and then being liberal on every issue.
