[South Texas:]Mexican girl abused, raped in San Juan house, police say

SAN JUAN — A 16-year-old Mexican girl was forced into household labor, deprived of food and shelter and raped six times by the man who smuggled her into this country, according to authorities.

Benito Vargas, 17, is accused of raping the Jalisco native on several occasions while his mother ignored the girl’s cries for help, San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said. The girl, who was smuggled into the United States on claims she would have a better life here, was also beaten on several occasions, was rarely fed and was forced to sleep on a couch outside while she was at the house on West 10th Street.

“She came over with the intent of a better life,” the chief said. “But what she walked into was a nightmare.”

The girl escaped this week through a window in the house, found a helpful neighbor and was taken to a shelter where she is under police supervision.

Police are searching for Vargas on suspicion of six counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Gonzalez said. He was last seen in Mexico, where he allegedly went to intimidate the girl’s family when she disappeared.

San Juan police raided the house at 210 W. 10th St. Wednesday afternoon and took Vargas’ mother, Ofelia Vargas, 45, into custody.

Arrested on a charge of failure to report a felony, she is accused of idly standing by while her son allegedly raped the victim, Gonzalez said. Ofelia Vargas also allegedly harassed and intimidated the girl while she was at the house.

Her daughter, Belen Vargas, 17, faces a misdemeanor charge of assaulting the girl.

Police believe the victim was brought over to the U.S. with her parents’ consent on the pretext that Benito Vargas could help her find work, Gonzalez said. Instead, she was allegedly abused, neglected and raped over a period of several weeks beginning Nov. 21.

Police are investigating a tip from neighbors that a young child was also kept at the house, where two other undocumented immigrants were detained during a raid Wednesday.

Ofelia Vargas was taken to Hidalgo County Jail, where she remains in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

Belen Vargas, her daughter, was already in custody at La Villa Detention Center on unrelated charges.

Police believe Benito Vargas — who may face additional charges of unlawful restraint and human trafficking — remains at large somewhere in Mexico.

When police notified the girl’s family in Mexico that she was under police supervision, Gonzalez said, the family told them Benito Vargas had come to their house earlier searching for her.

Gonzalez said it’s not unusual for women and girls to be lured to the United States under pretenses masking sinister intentions.

“Once they’re here, the motives change,” he said, noting that the girl was likely a target for use in domestic servitude or prostitution.

Arrested on a charge of failure to report a felony

The police aren't Constitutional scholars but isn't no speech an option of free speech? They should have nailed her on something more legally sound than that.

There is no constitutional prohibition against misprision statutes. The U.S. Code has had a federal crime of misprision since the adoption of the Constitution, although it requires an act of concealment. Most states, however, don't have misprision statutes. YMMV.

Texas has misprision statutes for failing to report an act of child abuse or failing to report a felony.

That said, I would think the mom's bigger worry is a charge of complicity, as she clearly was harboring a felon and providing him with premises in which to commit his crimes. There is a strong possibility also she helped keep the girl from leaving the premises.

While not defending the POS, I have to call out the MSM bias.

So, a 17 year old who rapes a 16 year old is now a “man”, despite being a minor himself. But a 24-year old gang banger is still a “youth” when he kills, commits crimes, is prosecuted, looking at the death penalty, etc.

My, the fringe media plays fast and loose with their classifications to suit their agenda.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled POS rogue Swede...

Has anybody called ACORN to help return the girl to Benito? It seems they would want to help him reclaim his lost property.

Well, I know I'm confused.

Same story, different county, same people?

A mother and son were each sentenced to 27 months in prison
on Thursday and forced to forfeit their home for harboring
a 16-year-old girl who was smuggled into the United States
from Mexico.

U.S. District Judge Sim Lake sentenced Gregoria Vasquez-
Salgado, 59, and her son, 28-year-old David Salazar, to
identical prison terms for a federal charge of harboring
an illegal immigrant. Vasquez-Salgado is subject to
deportation to Mexico when she completes her sentence
because she is in the country illegally.
She was given nine months credit for time already served.

The pair was arrested after San Jacinto police traced a 911 call to their home in March 2008 and found a teenage girl from Mexico who said she had been held captive

It is tragic what happens to these young Mexican women...but realize it is their own ‘countrymen’ persecuting them, not US.
The girl will be given a visa for being violated and stay here on a pathway to citizenship while having several achor babies. Oh, like we need more damaged, poor, ignorant citizens.

This is how Mexicans treat illegal aliens in their nation.

May 2009

Here is a grisly crime, worthy of outrage. Two teenagers (13 and 15)
murdered an illegal alien by decapitation. Afterwards, the young murderers cast the victim’s body into an abandoned well, put the head in a backpack and dumped it on a pile 150 meters away. Thanks to a tip from a local citizen, police found the remains three days later and the boys are being prosecuted.
They aren’t, however, being prosecuted for commission of a hate crime . Why not? Because it happened in Mexico, in Ciudad Acuna (across the river from Del Rio, Texas). The illegal alien was from Honduras, had only been in the border town for a week, and was planning to cross over into the United States. The adolescent killers were Mexicans.
According to the report in El Universal, Mexico’s paper of record, the victim was earning money in the border town by washing cars, biding his time to cross the border into the United States. However, soon after having arrived in Acuna, the Honduran had gotten crossways of the 13 and 15 year olds who later killed him. The killers also worked washing cars.
In Mexico, some young men work in the informal economy by washing cars in a public place . Given that the victim and his killers were car washers, is it possible that it resulted from some sort of work-related dispute? Was this Honduran illegal alien horning in on their work site, or washing cars cheaper and thus undercutting their earnings?
This is just speculation. But it’s a possibility. Whatever the specific causes, it’s yet another result of the international migration of illegal aliens which causes so much havoc.
