The Illinois congressman, now the front-runner in the Republican primary election for U.S. Senate, is facing an attack ad that questions his sexual orientation. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that opponent Andy Martin, already controversial for previous remarks about Barack Obama, has run for offices in Illinois, Florida and Connecticut but has never won. He taped a commercial questioning whether Kirk is gay -- and radio stations have told the Sun-Times that federal communications rules don't permit them to edit the ads. Spokesman Erik Elk said that Kirk, a U.S. Naval Intelligence officer, was unavailable for comment because he is on active duty over the holidays. Elk issued this statement: "The ad is not true and is degrading to the political process. The people of Illinois deserve better." Kirk, whose candidacy was endorsed by his ex-wife, faces five opponents in the Republican primary on February 2.

But note CNN's coverage here. If a Republican were to smear a Democrat like this, the story would be about the Republican's outrageous tactics and how the Republican must be a desperate loser.
But a sociopath kook calling himself a Republican spews this kind of slime at a Republican front-runner, and the story is about how the front-runner is "facing questions about his sexual orientation."
They dutifully provide a minimal mention that Martin is "controversial," but that hardly mitigates the smear here.
Andy Martin is a waste of perfectly good air, and CNN is close behind.

I notice this guy has said things about Obama as well, but they don’t tell you what they were.

Martin-Trigona has previously run as a democrat in Illinois, too, and no mention is made of that in the article. Of the fact that he was never admitted to the Illinois bar because of what the ABA called “moderately severe character defect manifested by well-documented ideation with a paranoid flavor and a grandiose character.”
Kirk’s spokesman says flatly that the allegation is untrue and it gets buried. Typical CNN.
If it’s the same Martin, he claims to be a birther but actually used the issue to grandstand. He even went to Hawaii and dramatically posted about it on FR describing himself in glowing terms.
Same guy. He does love to describe himself in glowing terms. He's a narcissistic sociopath.
Then let's have somebody who's not a sociopath attack him for that.
While the gay smear might be deplorable, he should not be defended. That's his problem.
It is deplorable, and it comes from a sociopathic creep. Andy Martin is a piece of human refuse and anything he says should not be taken seriously in any context.
I really don't know anything about Mark Kirk, and I don't much care at this point. But Andy Martin is on par with Fred Phelps, and should be considered a pariah.

He’s a nutter but then anyone can run for office. Sometimes they win (Franken). Hopefully he’ll only get 6 votes. And they’ll all be family members.

Sure will be interesting to find out if Andy becomes the Senator from Illinois if he THEN will have legal standing in D.C. to bring the birth certificate issue to court.

Kirk is my congressman. I don’t care whether he’s gay. I dislike him because he’s pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-spending increases, pro-tax increases, pro-illegal alien, and anti-Iraq surge.
I hope that Kirk will lose his primary to Don Lowery, a conservative who has been a judge and a state’s attorney. His site is www.JudgeLowery4USSenate.com.
Considering his voting record since 07, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was.
Allow me to tell you. You need not to be angry about this. Kirk is DIABLO (Democrat In All But Label Only) sludge.
We need this guy to lose the GOP primary or else the general election will be between 2 democrats. I don't know if he's fruity or not and I don't care but if the allegation that he is hurts him, super. Remember now he's a democrat in the GOP and that's not an exaggeration. I'm gonna go ahead and treat him like one. He's a liberal, not a moderate.
Now Andy Martin is very strange and less than a good conservative himself, I don't think he could even win an election. But there are 3 credible conservatives in the race. John Arrington, Patrick Hughes, and Don Lowery. There has not been much polling so far but I'm sure more polls will be conducted. If one is clearly in a superior position to win I will vote for that candidate and urge Illinois conservatives to do the same.
Martin was in another 5-way primary in 06 and we know how well that turned out.
