Thanks for your knowledge on the subject. Now it makes total sense why not for efficiency sake.
BTW, I am in NY too. you had some of my favorite Founders sayings on your about me page.
NOW WE ARE FREEPING! (eyes rolling)
Happy New year All.
One of the interesting aspects of the rotary engine is that it can be easily adapted to run on hydrogen. This is not as simple to do with the more conventional reciprocating engine.
Thanks for the reality check...
Have a happy new year.
The RX-2 had the 12A and then the 12B. The RX-3 actually started with the 10A and then they put the 12A in it. The 7 had the 13B.
I was living in Japan at the time In the Marine Corps and a buddy had a Rx-7 and I had a Fairlady Z.
350 horsepower in a 2000 pound car approaching 9,000 rpm seems to me to be describing a 200 mph vehicle.
The mazda RX-2 and the smaller RX-3 shared the 12a engine, although the RX-3 had less horsepower, due to a more restrictive thermal reacter. The RX-4 which came out in 1974 had the 13b engine.
I had a ‘05 RX8. Handled like it was on rails and had plenty of punch. But the Mazda6 could keep up with it for 10K less. And the 8’s mileage sucked.
Shredded.a lot of tires with that baby though ...
Already basically here. Well, in Europe at least. You have to get it as a kit car here thanks to our regulations.
Caterham CSR, street legal, 260 hp, 1,268 lb. That's almost 20% more horsepower per pound than your 350/2000 example for about $67,000. It's actually about the same power to weight ratio as the 638 horsepower, $100,000+ Corvette ZR1.
I’ve been a supporter of hydrogen as an energy storage medium since about 1970 (when 0bama was still in the madrassa).
I used to own an incredibly sweet Supra Turbo.
I loved that car, Put almost 300,000 miles on it and it still idled whisper quiet the day i sold it.
The latest ones, although awesome were pretty ugly though.
It’s too bad they don’t make them anymore.
I had an 83 RX-7 that I loved, which was rear ended, followed by an 86, which I tolerated. I figured, post divorce, I didn’t need more than two seats, and fell for the speed and handling.
Haven’t ever convinced myself on the -8, but I think that the remade -7 could, maybe, get me to supplement the much more practical F350.
And, yes, both burned oil, as they had to lube the apex seals.
But oil’s cheap, and it’s hard not to admire a powerful engine with only three moving parts...
The 1980 US Express was won with a time of 33:39 in a RX-7.. The winner was Will Wright , who later went on to create “The Sims” videogames. http://www.wired.com/cars/coolwheels/news/2007/10/will_wright
I own two Mazdas. One ‘08 Mazdaspeed3 and an ‘87 RX-7 that is a rally project.
The MS3 is a fine, fine little commuting car. It makes every trip fun.
But as for your contention that you have a 3800 hundred pound/475 hp car that can’t get traction...have you considered fixing the problem? I also own a ‘71 Camaro/454/powerglide with a glass front end/doors and a stripped interior. It runs low 10’s in the quarter. I’ve never weighed it but it is probably somewhere around 2700 pounds. the BBC is pumping out at least 550 HP. I suppose if you didn’t know what you were doing, or if you didn’t know how to set up the suspension, or if you bought cheap tires...it would be like ice. It will pull both front wheels...hardly like driving on ice.
Actually, as someone else pointed out, it would be comparable to a Corvette ZR1. A beast, yes, but manageable.

Throw me in that brier patch.... please
TT
When is MAZDA going to bring back the RX3SP, which I know is going to sell well in the states, Australia and Puerto Rico, MAZDA is missing on a great oportunity to bring back the RX3 as a RETRO, just like the Mustang, Camaro and other that have made the comeback from the 70th. I know that I will be the first one to buy the RX3, just like I did back in 1977. Lets hope they come thru.
