HONOLULU -- President Barack Obama on Tuesday said a "catastrophic breach" of security led to the Christmas Day attempted bombing on a Detroit-bound airplane.

"A systemic failure has occurred and I consider that totally unacceptable. There was a mix of human and systemic failure that contributed to this catastrophic breach of security," he said.
