Candidate Rick Snyder criticizes opponent for governor Pete Hoekstra for citing attempted Detroit terrorist attack in fundraising letter

U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra was blasted Monday for using an attempted terrorism attack to raise money for his campaign for governor.

A fundraising solicitation Hoekstra's campaign e-mailed Monday criticized the response by President Barack Obama administration's to a failed attempt to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 as it neared landing at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

The solicitation showed poor judgment, according to a campaign spokesman for Rick Snyder, an Ann Arbor venture capitalist and 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate.

Grand Rapids Press File PhotoRick Snyder"It is extremely disappointing that the congressman would us a potentially tragic incident to raise money for his political campaign," said Snyder spokesman Jake Suski. "In these troubling times, words can't describe how sad it is to see an attempt to politically capitalize on a failed terrorist attack just three days after it happened.

"Unfortunately, Congressman Hoekstra's Washington style of politics isn't the answer to our lack of leadership in Lansing."

The solicitation asks supporters for campaign donations from $25 to $250. In it, Hoekstra, a Holland Republican, says the Obama administration failed to take responsibility for the security lapse and has made national security decisions that should "frighten us all."

"Barack Obama's policies may impress the 'Blame America First' crowd at home and his thousands of fans overseas, but they sure don't do anything to protect our families in Michigan or the rest of America," Hoekstra wrote

And Cox is an arrogant idiot from personal experience. OH Mike how is that Kwami thing going? My vote is on Pete. He is conservative and good.

So let me get this right. This cork sucker is a carpet bagger from Wayne County, moves into the People’s Republic of An Arbor (way liberal) and takes shots a Pete. Well RINO go home to where ever you came from.

I am voting for Pete. He is the best in the race so far, IMO. When does primary voting begin anyways?

There's a few of us Republicans down here, even transplants from the north like me. Some of us are actually conservative as well.

Snyder isn't conservative.

What is “beltway”? In my years of following Pete he has always voted as a strong conservative would (except one time). I know him personally and he is rock solid. He is from my district and a person with solid conservative leanings could turn this state around.
You don’t even know him yet you reject him?
Cox is the beltway Republican not Pete.

What is local?
Pete has lived in the Holland area since he came here when he was 2 years old.
Is local from Detroit area?
Do you think being born and then moving to America with parents at age two disqualifies you from being governor?
Your arguments against Pete don’t fly.

Mike Cox isn't a beltway guy. Mike wasn't even supposed to be the Attorney General in 2002. That was supposed to go to then Senate Majority Leader and real beltway guy Dan DeGrow. DeGrow had no grass roots support and dropped out of the race. Mike and his grass roots team was on our own and we still won.

If Hoekstra is the nominee, I'll vote for him, although my vote goes to Mike in the primary. On every issue he promised me, he has delivered. Hoekstra isn't bad, but that 2nd bailout vote really soured me.

Name some “R” congress critters that have made horrible governors. Thanks.
My comments stand as well.
I like Mike Cox but he will have to win the primary without very many west Michigan Republican votes IMHO.

I agree on the bailout issue but on every other vote, he has voted as a solid conservative.
I like Mike and have helped get him elected to AG position.
(I like Darren McCarty too).
