Paging those Sea Lions...still think they might be onto something?

Tell me more...I missed something.

It looks like there was another 4.9 just 5 minutes afterward. I didn't feel anything here in San Diego.

I am thinking the Puget Sound will get the next major earthquake, and then along Chile way down south.
I am getting earthquakes up here in Alaska but we hardly notice anything less than 5.0.

It was probably just set off by the rush of feet headed to the border for the upcoming amnesty.

Ditto. I'm out by I-5/Genessee. Felt nothing. I was surprised to hear it mentioned on KOGO and see the 5.9 on the earthquake map. It was located 106 miles east of Tijuana, 22 miles south of the border near Calexico.

This has been a seismically active area. It must have shaken the needles off a few cactus and made the dogs bark, otherwise, there's not much out there to be disturbed.

Yuma FRper here, I definately felt that. My very first one ever. First I thought it was the wind, but the entire room was shaking. I mean it was ROCKING. Lasted a good 10 seconds.
There was an after tremor as well
To: My Favorite Headache
Felt it here in Ehrenberg, AZ .... took a few minutes to locate it on the USGS earthquake map .... apparently there were a cluster of earthquakes in that area this morning

You have a volcano and a couple of mountain ranges between you and the epicenter. That always tones things down a bit.

that’s not far from mexicali right?
Mexicali has more than a million people.
5.9 wouldn’t do much in the USA probably, but some of their construction is well below our standard

I think its definitely a connection to the “blue moon” just about now, and moon phases can have effects on the tides and even earthquakes.

My cousins (about 20 of them) are in Glamis (have been for over a week now) and they were immediately texting me for information. They said it shook there for over 30 seconds. With the amount of booze flowing in and around their camps, even at that hour, I wouldn’t doubt that for a second. LOL

I’m in San Diego near Kearny Mesa and I didn’t notice a thing. Neither did a co-worker sitting near me. I’ve heard people in Mission Valley felt it, which is basically downhill from where I’m at.

I am in the Imperial Valley and this was one heck of a long continuous temblor. One of the worst that I have felt because of the strength and duration. Knocked a lot of stuff off my shelves and I have never seen a window bow so much without shattering. I know it’s cool to say it didn’t bother but this one frightened me.
Gotta go and check my underwear.

FYI
Volcanic unrest since 1980 in the vicinity of Mammoth Lakes in the southern part of the Long Valley caldera has increased concern among scientists over the possibility of a volcanic eruption in the future. Although pinpointing the precise time and location of the next eruption in the Long valley area is not feasible, scientists can identify areas that are likely to be affected from different types of future volcanic activity. Knowing the potentially dangerous areas before an eruption starts is critical for planning emergency procedures that can help ensure public safety if the unrest leads to volcanic activity.

"Most likely, they left chasing a food source," said Jeff Boehm, executive director of the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, which runs an information center and gift shop at Pier 39. "It's probably what kept them here in the first place."...The animals began leaving in droves the day after Thanksgiving, almost as if someone had issued an order. But Boehm said the fact that so many sea lions stayed for so long is even stranger than their disappearance. "They do move off," Boehm said, adding that in the fall, older sea lions head to breeding colonies in the Channel Islands, off the coast of Southern California along the Santa Barbara Channel. Younger sea lions, he said, "don't mind those rules and tend to travel far and wide."I think the media reports make it look like they all left last night, but in fact this article suggests its been weeks.

I recall a 5.9 in El Centro that I definitely felt in Chula Vista. The Landers 5.9 was a damn good shake in Mira Mesa. The longest quake I've experienced was in Federal Way, WA. It continued for around a minute and the epicenter was about a mile from my house. I had to plant my hands on the walls of the hallway to avoid being knocked off my feet. My mom was holding the kitchen cabinet closed to avoid being showed with glassware. I watched a vase full of flowers dance across the kitchen table. Fortunately, the shaking ceased before the vase came off the table.

First thing I thought too, but when I checked the story on the sea lions, they were in Frisco. That’s an awful far way away from this quake.

Heh The Sea Lions were my first thought upon hearing about the quake too.
Our lil bay front has its resident sea lions too.
Just a few miles up the road from us.
I will have to take a look next time we head to town.
The only time they come up the bay this far is in Jan when the Killer Whales come into the bay looking for some Sea Lion Dinner.
