Boy Scout-free LAPD Explorer program in the works(Lists gay discrimination as reason)

The LAPD plans to launch its own Explorer program for young people this month, removing the Boy Scouts of America from management, officials said Tuesday.

The Police Commission voted two months ago to end its relationship with the Scouts because of the organization's policies that discriminate against gays. The program had been operated by the Learning for Life Foundation, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts.

The move to create the Los Angeles Police Department's own teen program should be launched by Jan. 1, Deputy Chief Earl Paysinger told the Police Commission.

"We have received inquiries from dozens of agencies on what we're doing," Paysinger said. "We think once the LAPD breaks away, other agencies will as well."

The biggest challenge in creating the program has been raising money, Paysinger said, but more than $25,000 has been collected so far to help cover the costs of uniforms, badges and patches.

The Explorer program introduces teens to law enforcement as a career, by having them work in stations alongside officers and assist in a variety of policing programs.

Before becoming Explorers, teens must take 96 hours of training in an academy. More than 250 cadets are expected to graduate soon and enter the new program, which has not yet been named. About 3,000 young people are currently enrolled as Explorers.

"We have found wide support ... and a great understanding about why we are making this change," Paysinger said.

The LAPD has ALWAYS sucked as a LEA because of poor leadership. This is a perfect example of why that’s true.

The thing is, the BSA don’t discriminate against queers as members, just as leaders. They don’t want them in an authority position for obvious reasons. They won the Dale case based on First Amendment freedom of association. They ought to find a police candidate from the scouting ranks, let him get turned down for a cadet position, then sue.

The left has to be sued, sued, sued. They have to learn the lesson that we’re fighting back using their tactics against them.

Somebody needs to do some gumshoe work. All they have to do is get some footage of one of the queer explorer “leaders” coming out of or going into a queer book store, theater, etc., or set one of them up to hit on a boy and get it on tape and they’re done. The whole project is over.

They’re not suing because the case was already decided by the SCOTUS. It was called the Dale case, and the BSA won based on the First Amendment protection of the right to free association. It took place in the late 90s.

The BSA was already sued for discrimination against queers. The queers lost. It was the Dale case, decided by the SCOTUS about ten years ago. So don’t be giving the LAPD any kudos for not suing. Res judicata.

LAPD has always sucked. I don’t care how big they are, the leadership sucks, the cops themselves are often unprofessional, and they generally are a lousy, slipshod agency.

They blew off the youth protection procedures (they probably thought it was rooted in homophobia, or didn’t have enough volunteers to go around) and had a predator (gee, what a surprise) abuse one of the boys.

Oh NO!!
