Will they let us in without a gun? thats my biggest concern as we drive to the new Clark County Shooting Park at the northern end of Decatur. I ask my cohort whether we can borrow her brothers pistol; but shortly the talk turns to how her mother got shot in the foot once in a family gun-handling accidentblood spurted straight up! I decide well go gunless.
Turns out yes, youre welcome to go gunless. You can take a picnic. You can take a properly leashed dog. Its a public park for the stouter-in-faith than I. There are RVs and sooner or later therell be camping. Theres a snack bar to be run by the Blind Industries of Nevada. Safe, fun, affordable, family-oriented, world class, public recreational shooting facility says the countys informational material about the new 178-acre, $61 million range, the first such public park in Southern Nevada.
We pass the archery and shotgun ranges and pull in at the rifle-pistol combo range next to a sports car with Nevada plates reading SNIPR. The sky is crackling like Gettysburg circa 1863pop-pop, pop-pop-popand I flinch and repeatedly deny my instinct to stop, drop and roll, or call 911. I think of soldiers in Iraq. Of Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon. The reality-fiction lines are all crossed, per our era. As we take the parking lot, a family of four disembarks from a monster SUV with weaponry enough to subdue a hostile tribe; the little boy is a foot shorter than both of the rifles he carries and the whole family wears crisp cammies; one imagines their patriotism/attack-themed Christmas morning days earlier.

Ms Willis is well and truly a clueless tool.
Sounds like a cool place to me.
artcle should be article...
You mean this isn’t satire?
She sounded genuinely surprised that no one got shot. What a stupid woman.
It was Ms. Willis' turn to be the moron in the crowd.
An as-expected look at the mind of the gun control freaks in the world. They don’t have a clue about firearms in general, but that doesn’t stop them from crashing the party for the rest of us. I hope the writer goes back a few more times, and begins to learn about the practical, responsible implications of the Second Amendment.
I never heard of a Columbine event at a range. Libs with guns - they hold then sideways and ‘bust caps’, right?
The level of condescension and outright bigotry displayed by this idiot reporterette is truly staggering! I think that she was trying to be "funny." She wasn't. She seemed to be shocked that parents would dare to expose their children to the scourge of civilization: GUNS! She seemed to be shocked that people can handle guns safely, and not go on shooting rampages. This woman is an example of what's wrong with the media. A perfect example. And I really hope that if she's ever being robbed or assaulted, if someone with a concealed carry permit interrupts the crime, he or she will apologize to the criminal and say, "please, carry on..."

Yeah. I’d venture to guess that she’d be all atwitter about takin’ her younguns’ to experience the homo parade in San Francisco.
You beat me to it. She's pathetic - no doubt an Obama supporter.
This woman just described how an idiot liberal would view my gun club on a typical weekend. My favorite thing about my gun club is not even shooting (though that’s high up there). Its the fact that not one person who I have ever known or talked to there supports Obama and this leftist dribble. A zone of sanity....
The editor knew she was clueless when she was sent out and it may be that he wanted a “fresh approach”. Or may be the editor doesn’t like her and wanted to humiliate herself (this is Nevada, afterall).
She makes the Liberal mistake of implicitly equating shooting with sex, both of which Liberals believe to be uncontrollable urges that cannot be denied. She is, of course, wrong on both counts and fairly clueless.
She didn’t even touch the number of shooters that were out teaching others to handle a rifle or pistol safely and well.
I would invite her to go out again and simply ask around for someone to show her how to shoot. She would be surprised at the number of people who would turn their rifle over to her and teach her the rudiments of disciplined shooting.
Her discussion of trust is interesting. Not sure what to make of it. Of course we trust other shooters to handle their guns safely.
She builds hotrods in her garage in her spare time, BTW.
