Here's the second part of our look back at cable news ratings over the last decade. We've charted the total day numbers, and here are the numbers for primetime.
Again, Fox News' rise is most noticeable, as is the bump the election gave CNN and MSNBC.
The charts track each network's Nielsen primetime ratings average for each of the last 10 years, from Dec. 27, 1999 - Dec. 23, 2009. After the jump, the A25-54 demo.
“Day” means daytime, i.e. earlier than primetime.
One chart shows all age groups, the other shows demo of 25-54 year old adults.
The A25 chart is a subset of the other chart.
What strikes me is the Total Viewer chart. It isn’t so much that the audiences for CNN and the others has decreased - FNC has found an unserved audience.
They’ve grown tremendously, but not by stealing away viewers. They’ve increased the size of the pie. That’s amazing.

CNN and the others don't see it that way. To them, FNC has stolen their audience away. By giving people an alternative to news with a heavy left-wing politicization slant, FNC keeps the others from hearding everyone down the MSM cattle chute. This infuriates them, and if they could they's outlaw FNC and shut it down.
Many forget that earlier in the decade many people had to demand that their cable companies carry FNC. I’ve heard of no such call for MSNBC even though a few cable operators don’t carry it. CNN is on all of them, most from it’s start so they never had that problem. Would be an interesting experiment if every cable company dropped CNN and they had to build back up. Some would come back but you wouldn’t see CNN everywhere like you used to do.

Like more pretty girls at closing time in a bar. ;-)
But, how can this be that Fox is the top dog on cable? Obama and his cabal boycott appearing on Fox.
Oh well, just another miscalculation by Junior and the Misfits.
If you are a Time Warner cable customer, you had better get on the phone and tell them to get with the program. Fox network (News Corp.) is scheduled to pull all of their programming from Time Warner today, unless Time Warner steps up to the deal.
