“Let me see your papers!” More and more Americans are feeling fearful of our government
The Collins Report ^ | December 31, 2009 | Kevin “Coach” Collins

Posted on 12/31/2009 6:05:25 AM PST by jmaroneps37

Those of us who grew up in the 1960’s remember old black and white movies made during World War II. We remember the ones about the Nazis usually had a sneering jerk in a black uniform and monocle confronting a “suspicious” civilian with the demand, “Let me see your papers!”

Seventy years later, we thought all of that was left behind, but according to a new Wenzel Strategies report, a growing number of Americans are becoming fearful American citizens might soon be challenged with this same chilling demand.

Very chilling stuff

Wenzel Strategies spoke to 823 likely voters over the weekend of December 18 to 21 and established a margin of error of 3.4%.

The timing of this survey makes its results still more significant for two clear reasons: first the nearness to Christmas should have people’s spirits high and hopeful; and second weekend polls usually reach more Democrats than Republicans.

If this was the case and a number of Democrats have come to this conclusion it adds extra weight to the importance of this finding.

This is the type of news that makes your stomach tighten because it is both overwhelmingly un-American for such a thing to happen here in the land of the free and the home of the brave, and a little voice tells you the 36% of Americans who feel this way might just be correct in their fear of Obama’s Administration.

Wenzel also observed that Republicans “get it.” At a rate of 73% Republicans now agree that “Our freedoms are decreasing under Barack Obama’s presidency.” This is a sharp increase from the 61% that felt this way just last month. Among Independents the month to month increase of fear of government jumped 7%.

Never in our lifetime have things been this scary

Hello, Mr.B!
One of the main difference between ‘progressives’ and conservatives is that conservatives understand human nature. The lust for power destroys civilizations.

Many times I’ve invoked Godwin’s Law, because many have not understood what Nazism is. But when a government agency (EPA) proclaims they will use ‘command and control’, that’s right out of the Third Reich playbook.

My only hope is that if we are forced to muster against the government,we will come ready to fight rather than protest, unlike the Bonus Army which geared toward protest marches.

The Bonus Army also did not expect the US military to get involved. We know better now and have learned from it hopefully. I don’t believe most of the military will join Obummer against the citizenry, but some will, which will make them traitors to the Constitution and our enemy.

They also didn’t have groups like Oath Keepers, which has prepared for encounters like the Bonus Army suppression. I think we are more aware and prepared this time.

I’m not a strategist or an analyst. I’m an electrical engineer and certified professional writer working on a graduate degree in Technical Communication. I browse FR for an inkling that we’re going to creep back to conservatism, but that creep is tree-sloth slow and seems to be gathering moss.

My only hope is that the urban areas go first. The big cities will financially crumble due to an increasing public denand for government largesse. As the rich flee the cities in droves and businesses leave for cheaper shores, these big cities will become cesspools of crime.

The suburbs will come next as the “walking wounded” from the cities start looking for handouts. The suburbanites will be ready though. Many of us are well-,if not heavily-, armed and well-prepared for this scenario. Home crimes and invasions will increase quickly, and the homeless will walk the streets and put immense pressure on local PDs, whose income is derived from suburban taxpayer, who will likely be unprepared for the influx of emergency calls from these areas.

The survivalist suburbanites will quickly try to get out of the areas most affected. Those of us with family members “out in the boonies” will quickly make our way to them while the unprepared are consumed by crime. Property values plummet, automobiles are routinely stolen or vandalized, personal safety is commensurate on the individual. Police, if they’re still employed, will issue strict curfews with little effect. The area will likely be so widespread that if the local governors aren’t already pleading to the state, they will be. Martial law will likely be instituted by the same government that starts us down this path.

If US military desertions don’t increase exponentially, the specially-trained “Federal Protection Agency” will fill their ranks. Terror bombings will become a daily event. If the armed American doesn’t stand up like those in similar situations in Israel, for instance, then we will surely fall.

Sadly, this is where I can’t pass. If we make it to such dreary and disastrous conditions, will those of us willing to fight find one another in the sea of humanity crawling to DC for help from Uncle Sam?

The people in this country need to understand that everything we enjoy in our day-to-day life is provided to us by those who work hard every day to earn a paycheck. As businesses leave American shores and unemployment soars, we’re all just one paycheck away from the unemployment line.

I pray everyday and thank God for my life and livelihood, and I pray that He gives society a well-deserved break from these fascists who are lying their way into a world government.

I’m not so worried about Obummer. He’s merely the poster boy. (Can I say ‘boy’ without being called a racist?) But he and his machine are doing a good job of setting us up. I’m more worried about who’s next.
It’s Congress who welds the legislative power. (I sure hope there won’t be any ‘fires’ in the Capital building.)
We’ve neglected the ‘institutions’ (universities, think tanks, etc) of democracy maybe past the point of no return. We’ve complained but we should have invaded them long ago. It would be hard to change a ‘producer’ into a ‘looter/moocher’ though.
Extreme Democracy leads to tyranny.

I dunno. Lets face it, if you get stopped by a cop or try to get on a plane, you have to produce some form of official ID. You’re fooling yourself if you think otherwise. And people going to vote or get a job SHOULD be required to produce ID too. As somone who carries multiple forms of official ID, I don’t have a big problem with a national ID card. If done right, such a card COULD potentially do some good, such as helping to screen illegals and reduce various kinds of fraud. The problem is that, I suspect, there will be two sets of rules: a rigorous set for the law abiding, and a wink, wink, nudge, nudge set for illegals and crooks.

I never thought I’d ever see the level of intrusion into American’s personal lives that we’re seeing today. It’s like a nightmare that you just can’t wake up from.

How sad that 233 years of blood, sweat and tears expended to make this country the greatest in the world and a beacon of freedom was given in vain.

“if asked for “papers” simply state that you are a gay muslim of mixed race, with no birth certificate or proof of your citizenship and, because you are a ‘special’ minority the ‘need to know’ is rendered moot.

That’s the ticket!”

No, the papers are going to be needed to prove you are gay, or muslim, or mixed race, or an illegal alien, and therefore a “special” minority. It’s the ones who can’t prove these things that need to be brought in, questioned and held for suspicion of being suspicious.

So you see, the papers will actually INCREASE freedom. For the ones who deserve it.

Who is Obama? This video goes well past marxism....

The intro for the first two and a half minutes is relevant, then it gets into the meat of the matter.

Extreme Democracy leads to tyranny.

What Bummer has ushered in does not look a lot like democracy at all. The machine talks like it is, but you look at the polls and you see that America largely regards him and his fellow politicians as a bad taste that they would spit out if they could. Polls that everybody knows about ("we are not alone") are one thing that Hitler never had to bother with.

The more we profile, the more we will have to show our papers.

It’s always funny (funny weird) how it starts. To my mind, it started in the 1970s and 1980s with the War Against Drugs. That’s when court decisions came down giving law enforcement the right to search your car, your purse, your school locker, your backpack, your rectum, your vagina, etc, etc.

My school district has a policy that high schoolers who want to participate in afterschool activities — the chess club, the chorus, Future Teachers of America, whatever — are subject to random drug tests. One second, a kid is sitting in home run, minding his own business; then the school nurse enters the room, announces his name, and off they go so he can piss in a cup and stay in the AV club.

All of this has turned out to be an absolutely wonderful re-education effort. If they already have you pissing in cups, asking to see your papers doesn’t seem that strange.

The potentially most effective part of profiling is the part that is rendered impossible by political correctness. We are so egalitarian that we are taught we shouldn’t care if someone goes “hail Allah killer of all infidels” right in front of us.

“Despite being armed, the American public doesn’t have the stomach for Civil War, and they likely never will....”

You are right, however, the public, statistically, didn’t have the stomach for revolution back in the day-only a small percentage did. That’s one reason America is called ‘the home of the brave’. When un-constitutional authority is asserted I will fight it, and I don’t much care who doesn’t.

Molon Labe (correct spelling)- Isn’t that what all those wanna-be airsofters wear?

But on a more serious note, if you want to give up, run up to the hills with your years supply of canned wheat - GO!

We don’t need anymore “summertime soldiers and sunshine patriots”.

Absolutely true - To one who is old enough to remember when the policeman on the beat was a figure of cheer and an image of friendship, the question continually arises, ‘What the heck happened?’

She was astounded and amused when she first came to the U.S. many years ago that we could travel between states without having to "prove" our identity at any time for no reason without a gubmint issued passport.

This is why we MUST end our silly white-guilt-induced abhorrence of anything discriminatory (by national origin or religion) or (so called) "profiling."

Everyone wants and needs safety from terrorism and crime--and security institutions will provide it, sooner or later, on demand. It will either inconvenience a few (like people with Middle-Eastern names...) or all of us will lose our freedom with mandatory ID's, searches, etc. ISLAMO-FASCIST TERRORISM MUST BE CRUSHED!

Yes it's possible terrorists could have a little old lady named Bernstein as an agent--but so far, in all the terrorist attacks I've heard about, they've only had young men with names like Mohammed.
