Last week, the FBI issued its preliminary 2009 crime report, showing that the number of murders in the first half of 2009 decreased 10 percent compared to the first half of 2008. If the trend holds for the remainder of 2009, it will be the single greatest one-year decrease in the number of murders since at least 1960, the earliest year for which national data are available through the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Also, the per capita murder rate for 2009 will be 51 percent lower than the all-time high recorded in 1991, and it will be the lowest rate since 1963—a 46-year low. Final figures for 2009 will be released by the FBI next year.
According to gun control supporter dogma—“more guns means more crime”—the number of privately owned firearms must have decreased 10 percent in 2009. To the contrary, however, the number rose between 1.5 and 2 percent, to an all-time high. For the better part of the last 15 months, firearms, ammunition, and “large” ammunition magazines have been sold in what appear to be record quantities. And, the firearms that were most commonly purchased in 2009 are those that gun control supporters most want to be banned—AR-15s, similar semi-automatic rifles, and handguns designed for defense. The National Shooting Sports Foundation already estimates record ammunition sales in 2009, dominated by .223 Remington, 7.62x39mm, 9mm and other calibers widely favored for defensive purposes.

This will require more study. As of January 1, 2010, all liberals shall relocated to Vermont. There will be no guns allowed; free health care; 100% income tax; free education; full retirement benefits; no military; 100% living-wage jobs; no evil corporations; food stamps for all; no Bibles; no anti-immigration laws; and free insulation for all homes. After 10 years, we will review the social consequences of these utopian, liberal dreams.

I think the point is that gang members murders of those of us who are armed citizens is down.

“FBI Reports Huge Decrease in Murders DESPITE Soaring Gun Sales”
If more average Joes walking down the street might be packing, an "urban youth" might be a bit more circumspect about popping a cap in one of the rival community organizers.
More guns among the general law-abiding population means that fewer criminals want to publicly commit any faux pas that might cause a citizen to chastise him with an application of lead.
Remember the three requirements for a crime: Means, motive and opportunity.
A more heavily armed general population reduces opportunity, thus a lower crime rate.
Ha Obama will take credit for cutting violence in the country...
I suppose DumBO will take credit, since, his election drove people to buy guns.
The looney liberals will site 36,000+ gun deaths /yr in the US. But they will not tell you how many of those gun deaths were the result of police action agains criminals, law abiding citizens defending themselves from the criminal element, and/or gangland and drug related gun deaths between the criminal elements.
They want to call every one of them a murder by gun toting law abiding citizens. Witness the Brady bunch.
Compare that with the number of deaths each year from medical malpractice. (225,000/yr. in the US)
Soaring Gun Sales prevent an even larger decrease in Murder rate. FBI reports indicate that if gun sales would not have skyrocketed America could have seen the largest reduction in Murder rate since the 1960s. This is a clear indication that more common sense gun control is needed and will save lives.
