The Obamas visited a movie theater near their rented vacation home in Hawaii on Thursday morning for a screening of the sci-fi spectacular. Officials say the first family had the theater to themselves to watch director James Cameron's tech-heavy film.

Did they pay for all the other seats? Theatres have been selling oout so that is lost revenue.

Ruined the experience for everyone else, “sold out”. Presidents can typically have any current release they request screened at the White House.

Renting a room at your local movie theater isn’t difficult, and it’s not all that expensive.

Guess he got in for free, too.

A few years ago we went to a multiscreen theater in downtown Hilo that had many of the latest movies CHEAP, like a buck a seat, as I remember.

But, then again, we had to enjoy it with the rest of the rabble. sarc/off

Wonder if Obama will let his kids watch Blind Side? About a white family who helps an African American kid and accepts them in their family. Kid becomes a great football player (gets a football scholarship and goes to the NFL) with the help of his adopted family.

"Ruined the experience for everyone else, “sold out”. Presidents can typically have any current release they request screened at the White House."

They probably went to see it in Imax Format which I am sure the White House doesn't have. They got kids so I think we can give 'em a pass on this one. I don't begrudge a President a bit of Normal R&R even if they have to shut down a theater or two.

Flying to Copenhagen to get a Nobel he didn't earn... Yeah, waste of taxpayer money. Taking his wife and kids to see Avatar at the Imax once a year. OK. It sucks they have to go through all the crap to move him around but its the world we live in.

*The Great Karnak takes the envelope and holds it to his head*

The Great Karnak says "Unobtanium!"

The Great Karnak's sidekick repeats the answer, "Unobtanium!"

The Great Karnak turns to his sidekick and says, "May the PETN of a thousand thongs infest your airsick bag."

The Great Karnak then opens the envelope and reads the question, "What would you call Obama's search for a clue?"

This evokes two memories.

First is the scene in Annie where Oliver Warbucks brings her to a private movie showing in Radio City Music Hall. (Annie falls asleep.)

Second is during my honeymoon with mrs. jimfree. We saw Herbie Rides Again and might as well have been alone in the small theater at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Lake of the Ozarks Missouri.

Because the Secret Service profiled. Anyone who wasn't a presidential family member was not allowed in.

Profiling - If it's good enough for the Secret Service, it's good enough for the rest of us

I would seriously doubt it since he and Moosechelle hate Whitey.

Unless they used it as a “teaching moment” to point out how Whitey was living in the South, where they used to have slavery, so the wealthy white family should have already sent all their money to Africa for the sake of redistributive change - you know, the thingy that Bambi thinks was left out of the Constitution.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/12/31/first-family-sees-avatar-in-3-d/

New Year’s Eve turned out to be Movie Day for the First Family. Vacationing in Hawaii on a rainy day, President Obama, his wife and their two daughters headed to a local shopping mall movie theater to take in the Digital 3-D showing of “Avatar.”

The Secret Service cleared one of the 10 theaters at the Windward Mall’s multiplex in Kaneohe for the Obamas, who arrived for the special screening around 9:20 a.m., well before the day’s regular showings get underway so as not to inconvenience other moviegoers. The other nine theaters at the multiplex are open as usual.

The president headed out to the movie after separate phone calls with John O. Brennan, his counterterrorism adviser, and Janet Napolitano, his secretary of homeland security, to discuss preliminary findings of their reviews into the attempted Christmas Day bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253. Mr. Obama released a statement saying that he will meet with agency heads on Tuesday after returning to Washington “to discuss our ongoing reviews as well as security enhancements and intelligence-sharing improvements in our homeland security and counterterrorism operations.”
