KANEOHE, Hawaii (Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Thursday summoned U.S. intelligence chiefs to a meeting next week to discuss how to prevent a repeat of the attempted bombing of a Detroit-bound airliner on December 25.
Seeking to quell criticism of his administration over an intelligence breakdown, Obama said he was briefed by his top advisers and would get assessments from intelligence agencies later on Thursday and study them over the weekend before returning to Washington from Hawaii.
Obama had ordered an immediate review of what he called "human and systemic failures" that allowed the accused bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a 23-year-old Nigerian with alleged links to Islamic militants, to get on the transatlantic flight from Amsterdam.
The incident has put Obama on the defensive, drawing charges from Republicans that his administration has dropped the ball on counterterrorism and exposing intelligence gaps that have lingered on since the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Hopefully the meeting will lead to an ABC News prime time special with Charles Gibson and the Kenyan.
Uh...simple plan barrack. Don’t bow down to enemy foreign leaders and play kissy face with them, especially the muslims. Let them know you mean business and you’ll bomb the living he$$ out of them if they f’ with us. I mean really bomb the he$$ out of them. Kinda like the way Bush did it, ok? What’s so hard to understand regarding the history of dealing with islam, mr. stay puft marshmallow man? Or do you have a different agenda because of latent sympathy for the enemies of the West?
No doubt the first 4 or 5 hours of the “meeting” will be used to hammer out agreement on serious matters like the optimum temperature of the meeting room and whether it should be arugula or watercress served with lunch.
I can’t wait to see the photos on TV. Obama at the head of the table, dozens of “advisors” looking serious and in a problem solving mode. Then another speech.
This dizzy punk is an embarrassment to America. I hope the people who voted for him see that he is a one trick pony. They can thank themselves for this amatuer and the damage he has and will be doing to this country.

So nearly a week after the attack, they announce a meeting will be held next week. Why do anything when we can TALK about doing something?
Being on the ‘defensive’ with terrorists will get us all killed. And giving more money to first responders (God bless them) does not solely define being ‘on the offensive.’
No rush! Obama’s has a vacation to finish first.
Lets bring a few terrorists and sit around and have a few beers.
