I wish McCain would shut up and retire. Or retire and shut up.

He *lost* the election, he has a lot of bad ideas, and someone else has already mentioned the Keating deal, he should have been happy with that and shut up and retired then.

I respect the man for being a pilot, flying in combat, and going through being a POW. But he is even more poorly suited to being an elected representative of the people than I am, and he needs to disappear.

It should be something that we remember this year as McCain seeks re-election.

Its as much a part of his record as Arlen Specter’s “guilty but not proven” vote was at the Clinton Impeachment trial 10 plus years ago.

What a maroon. No one I know would turn down that much money per hour to pick lettuce. Well, one would but he’s - shall we say - not motivated. < eye roll >

There was a day when migrants came and left during season. By throwing out 50 bucks an hour was just stupid. He also cannot live in the past and expect that time to return, not much reality on his part to make a reference to it.

Why are you posting a speech made by McCain in April, 2006 today?

This stuff is almost four years old.

This stuff is almost four years old.

Since the A-hole is running for reelection, people need to be reminded of his "great" statements.

Yes it is. I’ve done that work, for a lot less. For $50 an hour I’ll do it again, in a minute. Americans work. That’s what we do best. Our governing class does not understand this. They don’t work, in fact they will dodge it any chance they get. Name one honest job obama’s ever had and I’ll eat every word. He is famous for avoiding anything which might be categorized as difficult, but that tendency is seen as a virtue by people like McCain. They and their supporters are a load on all working people in this country, from produce pickers to industrial designers. Too much of their labor is wasted to support a system which is clearly their adversary.

These are jobs Americans DID do and jobs they need. Americans are out of work and need these jobs.

In the past, many of these jobs were done by
TEENAGERS! Think back to your own youth. Where did
you learn how to work? From school? Or your first boss?
School can flunk you or expel you; but most kids don't see
any problem with either of those outcomes. A boss can fire
you. That is an outcome that even the most rebellious teen
can understand. Getting fired tends to cut into the cashflow.

These are the jobs that we are going to miss the most.
Our kids need to learn the value of work, and fast food or some
other type of entry-level work is the place to learn about getting
to work on time, doing what you're told, etc.
Your first job out of college is not the place to learn how to work.

This is what we are losing. Our future.

$104,000 a year to pick. That’s some high priced lettuce.

It’s from 2006.

“McCain responded by saying immigrants were taking jobs nobody else wanted. He offered anybody in the crowd $50 an hour to pick lettuce in Arizona.

Shouts of protest rose from the crowd, with some accepting McCain’s job offer.

“I’ll take it!” one man shouted.

McCain insisted none of them would do such menial labor for a complete season. “You can’t do it, my friends.”

Some in the crowd said they didn’t appreciate McCain questioning their work ethic.”

You may be correct but he said that in 2006, don’t think Obama was in the picture yet.
