Dem recruits continue to head for exits
The Hill ^ | December 31, 2009 | Aaron Blake

Democrats have lost yet another touted recruit, this time in Kansas.

State Sen. Laura Kelly (D) just announced her withdrawal from the race to face Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kan.). She becomes the fifth formidable recruit to bow out in recent weeks.

“I have been forced to make a decision between honoring the pledge I made to the people in my Senate district and my firm conviction that the people of the 2nd congressional district deserve a truly independent voice in Congress," Kelly said in a statement.

“This has been a very hard decision, but it is the right one.”

Kelly joins several recent dropouts, including businessman Jack McDonald, a well-funded challenger to Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) who announced last week that he wouldn't run. The others are Ohio state Rep. Todd Book, who was running against Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio); former Tennessee Commerce and Insurance Commissioner Paula Flowers, who was running for Rep. Zach Wamp's (R-Tenn.) seat; and Solana Beach City Councilman Dave Roberts, who was running against Rep. Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.).

Both McDonald and Kelly were cited in a late October memo from DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) that touted the committee's recruiting successes.

I know candidates drop out every eleection cycle, but I haven’t seen a pattern like this before in one cycle.

Who wants to hitch their wagon to a team of asses that are already halfway over the cliff?

1. Should be very interesting to see how cash flows to hot contests in formerly Dem Safe areas. 2. Also how things go with the TeaParty groups working of disruption of Libs at more of their town hall meetings. 3. I will be looking forward to more YouTube videos of stammering Dems trying to defend pork and bad votes to ticked off constituents as we get closer to election day.

In many instances; running as a Democrat is a complete waste of money.

Interesting quote. She seems to be saying that she would not act according to what she thinks is best, presumably because she'd be strong-armed into voting the party line.

If only politicians would represent their constituents...

I would question just how formidable any of those candidates really are. The Democrat cupboard is pretty bare right now. Parkinson and Moore are retiring after their current terms, there are no serious opponents for governor or Brownback’s Senate seat, and they only have an outside chance of retaining Kansas 3rd. They may be headed for the wilderness for some time to come.

I wish there was some way the Repubs could knock off Charlie Rangel this November. I know that’s more than likely not going to happen, but he’s vulnerable politically because of Ethics Committee Investigations into his finances, and the fact that he will face at least one or two strong primary opponents. We won Rostenkowski’s solidly Dem seat, now occupied by Jesse Jr, in 1994, maybe miracles can happen twice.

Not in Harlem. However, Rangel may face a strong primary challenger.

Adam Clayton Powell IV announced he’d challenge Charlie, and I believe Rangel’s own former Chief of Staff announced a few months ago he’d challenge him as well.

“They may be headed for the wilderness for some time to come.”

I seem to remember the pundits saying the same thing about a year ago in reference to the Republicans. I think the underlying reality is against all career politicians. Any republican voted back into office better remember that fact or be booted out like the Dems are being eradicated this time around, but then again, we have another 11 months to go in order for them to screw this up like they have since being given the helm in ‘94.

American Patriots, the tsunami picks up steam and more and more patriots today, January 1st. Clean the sewers everywhere you find RATs; send them packing come November. Start putting signs up now. Campaigns begin now.

Dingy Harry, Pelosi and their minions can pound salt as of today.

The man should be in jail making the point of his reelection moot. We all know however that between his enhanced melatonin (albeit barely) and his good standing as a member of the progressive, read Communist and black Caucasus, the only worries he has is where to stash his next illegally obtained pile of loot.

I’d love to see enough Rs and Ds get together and agree that we will elect only new candidates (NO incumbents) who vow to get a Constitutional amendment in the works which will set one term limits on all members of Congress.

It’ll never happen, but with the way both sides are feeling betrayed by our(?) parties, well you know never let a good crisis go to waste.

The typical Democrat appointee is definitely a third-rate part-time hack at best. Most of them seem to have more interest in their personal lives than anything else (cheating on one's own taxes for example, or paying attention to the care and feeding of one's own sexual organs as another example).

Why should it be any better for the candidates.

Claims of Democrat affiliation are down to 27% ~ and although Republicans have long standing institutions at work feeding them mostly suitible candidates despite similar low affiliations, the Democrats don't.

Frankly, the Democrats are doomed to be destroyed this next election. They depend almost exclusively on a march through the chairs of party operation and local political office. The last two decades the guys at the top, the incumbents, have pretty much made it impossible to get bumped off, so their logical successors are still working as local precinct committeemen.

The Democrats have neither candidates nor nominees who are qualified to carry urine in a stainless steel retort without spilling it on their Bucci boots.

10-4! Take away the goodies and it will revert back to the way the founders designed it.
