MATTHEWS: Can a Republican lose this year coming up? Can a Republican incumbent lose any race anywhere next year?
COOK: I would not be surprised to see no Republican incumbent, House or Senate, lose.
MATTHEWS: How about a Democrat? Weve got five vulnerable people here, Specter, Lincoln, Bennet, Dodd. You say Dodd is the most vulnerable. Who is the second-most vulnerable?
COOK: Reid
BROWNSTEIN: Reid or Lincoln. Lincoln is in a situation where, again, its more generic than personal. This is a state kind of filled with the kind of voters that have been most resistance to the direction Obama is setting. I think thats a real problem.
I think Colorados a real challenge, too, because Bennet is operating, to some extent, as the shadow of the governor, Bill Ritter, who has a very uneven first term, some successes, a lot of disappointments. He could face a veryand Obamas approval there was dropping before the Fall.
MATTHEWS: Be coaches for a minute. How do you coach a Democrat to win with a bad weather condition out there, where people dont like Obama right now?
COOK: Independence. Stress your independence. I look at each issue one at a time. Id do whats right for the state. Im independent. Yes, I vote with my party when I think theyre right. Im against them when theyre wrong. Be able to list
MATTHEWS: How does Dodd make up for the fact that people, even Connecticut people, are ripped at Wall Street?
COOK: Thats not his problem.
MATTHEWS: Thats not his problem?
COOK: His problem is being a Democrat. His problem is being Chris Dodd.

This could really be the beginning of a happy year!
It looks like there is a perfect Rovian storm brewing!
; )
Fantastic!
Now GOP, if you do win, DO THE RIGHT THINGS THIS TIME!!!!!!
Dodd may drop out and make room for a democrat that can win.
Rove is not a genius and he did us no favors. Rove told Bush to push for amnesty. If Rove was so smart - he would have seen the Soros, Fannie/Freddie, Sandler, short hedge fund set up coming with the financial melt down.
McCain and Crist need to be booted in the primaries.
Shock time is coming. The storm is gathering strength. The rebuke of Marxism will be decisive.
“COOK: His problem is being a Democrat. His problem is being Chris Dodd.”
Dodd is a POS.
“I love it Rovian storm!”
Credit the Freeper who chose it as his name.
I surely hope so, but if that does happen, it won't be due to the efforts of the Republican Party. People are SO pist off at the way things are going, a lot of Independent and Democratic voters will throw the SOBs out in anger. The RINOs will say "See, we can win by pulling our same old "big tent" and "reach across the aisle" B/S. We don't need to change." And thus they will blow any chances for further inroads in 2012, and maybe even lose a few they gained in 2010. I don't see any winds of change coming over these people and they will continue to blow election after election.
McCain OUT any Non RINO Republican IN!~
Thirdly and most important is the incumbent story - but in the House of Delegates. In Virginia, there is an election at some level every year. The 100 members of the House of Delegates are elected for two year terms. In the last ten years, ten incumbents have lost House of Delegate seats. In last year's election, nine lost which shows a change. Eight incumbent Democrats lost and one Republican lost. The one Republican incumbent that lost, Phil Hamilton, was and is under federal investigation. I trust what last November's election in Virginia shows is that conservatives that are principled will win in the future this year - and in coming years.
It would be great if Chris Matthews finds himself fired in 2010...that would be really sweet. His ratings along with Larry King’s are absolutely dismal and there is no excuse for either of them to maintain a daily show. It’s all about sending out a marxist/neo-communist message...they don’t even care who says it.
Senate Majority leader does seem to be a shaky position. If I were a senator interested in staying in the Senate, I wouldn’t want that gig. Maybe they take that job when they’re ready to cash out. Get all the bribes you can, while you can, and prepare to lose.
Bush last 4 years sucked. He could have been more Reagan 2 but he turned into Poppy 2. His support of amnesty did it for me. After that he was done.
Any time I was in a leadership position and was moving on, I always considered my successor as part of my legacy. I did everything I could to ensure that my successor was a high quality person who would continue the policies I had established. Granted, a president can’t directly control who his successor will be, but if they leave on good terms with America, the chances are they at least secure a win for their party, for what that’s worth.
His first 4 years weren’t so hot either, really. Temporary tax cuts passed on Keynesian grounds. I think there was also a round of gubmint stimulus checks. The worst attack in US history. What were the good points of the first term?
“It would be great if Chris Matthews finds himself fired in 2010...”
I am truly puzzled that he has NOT been fired already. His intellectual functioning is so kinked....and the ratings seem to indicate lack of viewers. Does MSNBC want to survive or not? Maybe they are counting on government financial support?
Wouldn’t surprise me if there was a deal or a promise behind the door.
Sorry to sound negative, but we don't need any more RINO/Rovian storms. The last Rovian storm brought us Democrat victories in 2006 & 2008.
Karl Rove is not a conservative. He is a brilliant political operative, but there's no "there", there.
Has Hannity ever asked "The Architect" any questions about immigration? That might make for interesting TV.
FRANTZIE: Dodd is a POS.
okie01: That's the same thing, isn't it?
[People are SO pist off at the way things are going, a lot of Independent and Democratic voters will throw the SOBs out in anger.]
Independents do not like it when the House, Senate, and Presidency is held by the same party and especially not at the levels that they are no with almost absolute power. I think Independents are going to vote for the Republicans by 2:1 margins. I also think that Republicans are going to get the majority of the women vote for the same reason. That and the fact that the Democrats have been acting like arrogant, corrupt bullies with their abosolute power. 2010 is going to be a bloodbath for the Rat party.
Rubio has already caught up with Crist. Crist is toast and he knows it, the Florida Republican Party knows it and many in the National party know it.
McLame, not so much but hopefully he and a whole lot more Republican RINO’s get the boot in the primaries in favor or REAL conseratives.
I know I will NEVER again vote for the lesser in a pile of crap.
NO RINO turds. Conservatives only.
There’s one thing that can mess up our plans - AMNESTY.
Has Hannity ever asked “The Architect” any questions about immigration?
Hannity has sniffed the lotus blossoms when it comes to Rove.
One one of the Leftwing morning shows they were describing it as an “Anti Incumbent” mood. They wish.
We carry the flag here and let the RNC/GOP know every time they screw up. By now Rove has gotten the message from us loud and clear.
Only if we can rid ourselves of the Rinos...the conservative Republicans will do the right thing.
The RNC/GOP by now has seen our mantra of funding individual conservative candidates instead of the party.
This has to have at least gotten their attention.
IMHO, it's a winning strategy.
If they don't start funding only conservatives they will get little money from us and by funding only conservative candidates they should get enough dough to get the job done at least in this environment.
Not sucked completely - I disagree. He gave us John Roberts and Sam Alito on the SCOTUS, and you will be benefitting from their decisions for decades.
Yes but, the key question is how many Dems will lose? Will it be enough to change the balance of power in the House and the Senate? Right now, it looks like the answer to both of those questions is No.
Anh Cao will probably lose, so the headline isn’t quite as likely as one might hope.
Bush’s greatest accomplishment was keeping us safe after 911. We already see the difference just with a year of the Joker.
All of this is well and good; it would be a great day for the republic if more conservative Members of Congress are elected to the majority.
The real problem will be whether or not the current batch of miscreants lock the nation into a debt tailspin from which we are unable to recover.........
AMEN!!!
AMNESTY - Which is a lead pipe cinch because their careers depend on it, because they can and because McCain & Grahmesty will make it bipartisan so Nelson and another can appear to vote against it.
Inner city Dems can’t be thrown out unless the inner cities are thrown out.
Reid will be in huge trouble by election time. Mannnny scandals coming out. A little bird told me.
For the Senate, I’m not so worried about GOP incumbents losing. I’m worried about open Senate seats due to GOP retirements. Robin Carnahan isn’t being too much impacted by the bad political climate.
Frantzie, you are so wrong. Rove is an inspiration to marketing men everywhere. He taught us how to get huge, humongous, intergalactic budgets, and use them to get lousy results!
And then, as if that were not enough, he taught us to change slam-dunk landslides into closely fought nail-biters, at great expense!
Not only that, he introduced a new paradigm into the GOP strategies for all time. Karl Rove taught us that:
THEN TO BE LAVISHLY REWARDED FOR THIS. THAT, FRANTZIE, IS THE MARK OF A TRUELY AWESOME GENIUS.
If Rove had his way, the Dems would now have 20 million new voters and the Republicans would have ceased to exist as a political force.
The true Rovian storm would be a permanent Dem majority.
Also in his first year he teamed up with ole Teddy to expand the NEA, instead of dismembering it. The Senate was 50/50 and the dems cried for shared power because it wasn't "fair" that the VP could break ties. Bush went along with all of it.
Lets face it they are all corrupt, there are a few that aren't give them long enough in the cess pool and they will be. It is all about them, damn the people!
Agree. Pretty sad. I was fooled by GW but he is just another tool for the elites and Saudis. Light years better than the Muslim but he was no Reagan. This is why the elites tried to get Reagan.
From your typing fingers to God’s ears! :)
Happy New Year!
Colorado has been devastated under the Dems Ritter, Salazar and Bennet: unemployment is higher than the national average, they decimated the booming natural gas industry, and the coal counties, which have long been Dem strongholds, know what's going to happen if cap and tax goes through.
The Hispanic vote has been crushed because of massive construction layoffs. There is NO building, so they are not coming back.
Ritter's administration has been rocked by scandal, and basically everybody's sick of them.
You already see bumperstickers: Obama and Ritter: No thanks, You can keep the change and, Welcome to Taxarado. State representatives, who can smell the winds of change, are already switching parties.
Prediction: they're toast.
I’m not very worried about the open Senate seats. They are all 50/50 at worst. I think in a good year they’ll break our way.
I would be very surprised though if Joe Cao is reelected.
And unless he changes his vote on Obamacare I don’t care if he is.
