The problem is that "Socialists" have the power of government that strangles freedoms. When people stand up and resist, guess what, the guns come out in the shape of police, militias, and disappearances (think Argentina’s Desperados.)
Only the people who lived under tyranny, labeled socialism, would smell it light year away.
Remember, Soviet leadership used to call themselves Socialists. Case in point, USSR stood for Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics!
