Raptors to deploy to Guam

Fifteen F-22 Raptors are scheduled to deploy to Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, in January 2010 for approximately three months.

The fighters and associated personnel will deploy from the 90th Fighter Squadron at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska.

The deployment supports U.S. Pacific Command's theater security packages in the Western Pacific and follows the recent departure from the theater of two deployed squadrons of F-22s that also were supporting U.S. PACOM's TSP. The fighters and personnel deployed to Andersen AFB, Guam, and Kadena Air Base, Japan, completed their redeployment in October 2009.

The F-22 is a transformational combat aircraft that can avoid enemy detection, cruises at supersonic speeds, is highly maneuverable, and provides the joint force an unprecedented level of integrated situational awareness.

As part of continuing force posture adjustments to address worldwide requirements, U.S. officials continue to deploy additional forces throughout the Western Pacific. This is the latest example of the flexibility U.S. forces have to meet their ongoing commitments and security obligations throughout the pacific region.

"And this aircraft was canceled ????"

It wasn't canceled, exactly. But, it was shortened. The original order was for about 180 fighters, with an ability or proposal to procure several dozen more - perhaps as many as 80 or so more. But, Obama decided that they would only stick with the original 180(ish).

This is silly for two reasons. One, this is about as "shovel ready" a program as you can get. If you want to stimulate something with extra-spending, why not stimulate the defense industry, who has high-skilled, well-paid laborers? Second, the more they build, the cheaper the fly-away-cost per-unit becomes. Essentially, the more you build, the cheaper they get. It makes no logical sense to NOT buy these extra fighters, but spend billions in stimulus that won't get spent for another 2-3 years.

I had a hard time wrapping my brain around this for a minute after just reading the story about the Washington Wizards.

We have a mnuslim in the white hut.

Folks - Keep watching cable and sat TV - your monthly bill is paying for your serfdom. Each month you put at least $1 in MSNBC, $1 in CNN, $1 in ABC et al’s pockets.

Keep watching sports programming and ball games because sports programming (only popular part of TV) is what keeps the lib media alive.

Because a well educated high-skilled laborer doesn't usually vote Democrat.

Zero wants this money to go to SEIU.
