Please excuse the vanity but searched and could not find answers about this elsewhere.
My local AM Radio Station which has brought to the listeners in much of North Carolina and Southern Virginia, both Rush Limbaugh's and Sean Hannity's Radio programs for many years - has announced (but I only found out for sure yesterday) that it will no longer carry Rush's or Sean's Radio programs - as of 12/31/09.
"1) The decision to move Rush and Sean from WPTF was NOT ours.
2) Rather, that call was made by the programs syndication company, Premiere Radio Networks. We were afforded NO opportunity to discuss the matter, let alone renegotiate a new deal. Instead, we were given a 90-day notice of cancellation back in September.
3) Premiere Radio Networks are controlled by Clear Channel Communications, the same company that owns four of our competitors in the Triangle. This latest move is one of many over the last seven years where Clear Channel has made an overt attack on our stations. Weve survivedand thrivedin each instance, and we intend to do the same here." (Read more at the link)
Can someone explain what is going on here???
WPTF does NOT want to lose these programs - but that is what is happening???
Why would Clear Channel Communications (the owner of the syndication company that carries Rush's program - and, I suppose, Sean's program?) try to attack and destroy WPTF (owned by Curtis Media Group)?
I understand competition but this just smells rotten.
What gives?
And how can this be changed?

I looks like a business decision.
Surely they plan on moving the shows to one of their own stations?
It
Coverage?
I listen to 640AM in Fayetteville and they have Boortz, Rush & then Sean.
We’re only getting one side of the story, so it’s a little early to ask if it can be changed—capitalism being what it is, it’s no one’s business what the owners of those shows do.
WPTF always beats its competitors in the region in the AM radio market. I don’t know about FM.
But it’s just a rotten deal for WPTF - who was one of Rush’s original stations.
And it’s a rotten deal for those of us who are loyal to Rush and Sean as well as being loyal to WPTF which has endured major wrath from the local liberal power brokers who despise Rush, Sean, conservatives, truth, freedom, etc.
I haven’t heard of what other local station might carry Rush and Sean.
Well this just.......bites. Have any of you heard a peep about Rush being picked up on any other station here in Raleigh?
It is the business of the customers of the people who own the radio stations. That’s how capitalism works.
Not a peep!
WPTF will still carry Mark Levin at 8 PM each week night - thank God.
But they will lose so many listeners with this decision which they claim they had no choice about.
Rush, Hannity and Beck will be carried on WRDU 106.1:

I tuned in Thursday at 12 to listen to Walter Williams on Rush’s show and the first 15 minutes was preempted by the broadcast director and the morning news host explaining the upcoming change.
Is WPTF one of the major transmission stations? I mean, is it a 50,000 watt station or is it a smaller station?
You need a new dictionary, then. Since when do customers make the decisions? Your decision is whether or not you hand over your money to those who CONTROL the thing of value--what the owners of that thing do is NONE of your or anyone else's business beyond that.
No wonder we're doomed if that's what a "conservative" thinks.
Yes it is a major radio station - 50,000 watts.
Change the channel to one of “the competitors in the Triangle.”
It appears they are moving the shows to channels they outright own versus just “renting” the shows to a competitor.
The Ft Bragg troops will probably tune in on another station that carries them. I wouldn’t worry about it. There has to be another station within range. We have 3 of them in our area.
You can also catch Beck, Rush, and Hannity on 92.5 FM online out of Naples FL starting at 9 AM EST.
Capitalism is (not totally but very much) about someone who has a product or service which will benefit others - getting that product or service to its paying customers.
I am a customer both of the Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity program as well as of WPTF Radio which has brought these much needed “services” to my area.
That service is now being taken away.
I, as a customer of both entities, have every right to protest and let the service provider(s) know I object to their business decision.
Whether or not they do anything about the reaction of their customers to thie decision is, of course, their business.
If Clear Channel pulls syndication then the radio station has NO ability to respond. It is NOT their decision solely the decision of the provider. Happened out here in Santa Cruz our local conservative station wasn’t “big” enough for Clear Channel so they pulled Rush ( a nu,ber of years ago now). Station almost went under but the owner called onm us the loral listeners to do all we could to help. We have, he has , and the station goes on —— no thanks to Clear CHannel
