Today has been nothing short of amazing it terms of NFL news. Things have been especially entertaining here in the Washington D.C. area, where the Washington Redskins always keep you busy during the offseason. However, this bit of news comes from the other side of the country, all the way in Oakland.
According to sources at the Dan Patrick Show, the Oakland Raiders are very interested in former Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach. While it would be a surprising move, it would actually make some sense.
Current Raiders' coach Tom Cable has been under fire all season, beginning with an incident in which he may or may not have broken the jaw of his assistants during training camp. Combine that with a losing record and the revolving door at quarterback, and you have a man who could be on his way out.
In Mike Leach, you also have a man who is surrounded by controversy. His issues stem from dealing with kids at Texas Tech.
The Raiders have proved in the past that they are not afraid to dip into the college ranks for a coach. In Mike Leach, they get a quirky guy, but a pretty good football coach. Leach is best known for his innovative, pass happy offense that has lit up the Big 12 South for the past 10 seasons. It is no secret that Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis loves the vertical passing game. From that perspective, hiring Leach should be a match made in heaven.
Let's just hope this pass happy college coach fairs better than the last one who made the jump to the NFL. Remember Steve Spurrier's NFL experiment? Washington Redskin fans do.
If he wants the Raiders to succeed, he’d be better off locking the owner in the shed, not the players.

Problem is, he doesn't think character matters much, and he leaves his head coach with the daunting task like Lee Marvin had in The Dirty Dozen.
You do realize if the Raiders hire Leach, they gain a huge fan base from Tech....we love our Captain!
Yep! But no way in hell Leach would want Russell. And Davis loves that guy, for whatever reason.
Fine them. Bench them. Cut them. Trade them.
It's actually easier to deal with in the pros where there is far less pretense. Unlike big time college ball where they pretend to be about student athletes, the pros admit that it is a business and all about the money. Produce of be gone! Keep in mind, the average pro career is shorter than the average college career.
And for the record, the demonym for those that go to Texas Tech is not "Aggie," but rather "Sand Aggie."
Actually, the Captain of Texas Tech is Kent Hance and it was Kent Hance who fired Mike Leach.
I always wondered why MSU didn’t use Aggies, considering their old name used to be Michigan Agricultural College, affectionately known (and still referred to) as ‘Moo U’.

I read that Craig James attended over 70 practice sessions and was constantly hounding Leach to give his son Adam more playing time. .....That shows what a jerk daddy James is, but Leach should have banned him from the practices early on and would not have had the hassle.
A lot of Cowboys fans still dislike J Jones because of the Landry thing, just as you do. I understand. I’m a long time Cowboys fan, having attended many of their games in the Cotton Bowl in the early years and then later at Texas Stadium. ....Big game coming up Saturday night!
I read that and wondered why Craig had so much time on his hands. It's a long way from Dallas to Lubbock.
