Passenger films Northwest Flight 253 bomb attempt

Passenger films Northwest Flight 253 bomb attempt

On Northwest flight 253 this past Christmas day as we all now know, a Nigerian man attempted to blow up the plane which thankfully failed. But with nearly 300 passengers and crew on board you would expect that someone with a camera or better yet a camcorder would be filming or taking pictures.

These days most everyone has a cell phone with camera or video capabilities.

Well there was at least one man that we know of that was filming the entire event, witness’s on board mentioned it during the various interviews that we saw after the news broke.

Kurt Haskell and his wife Lori Haskell were interviewed by Erica Hill on CNN, Lori Haskell tells Erica Hill that she noticed a man with a camcorder recording the “entire” event, she said “he was the only one standing filming the entire thing“. The Haskell’s also talked about what they witnessed in Amsterdam before boarding onto Flight 253, they said; an unidentified man appeared to be helping the bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab get on board without a passport.

Another passenger, Patricia "Scotty" Keepman tells 620WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News." that she and her family were seated about 20 rows behind Abdulmutallab in a center aisle, and that she saw a man who videotaped the entire flight.

Patricia Keepman went on to say "He sat up and videotaped the entire thing, very calmly. We do know that the FBI is looking for him intensely. Since then, we've heard nothing about it."

There has only been one picture released to the media taken on flight 253 it’s an exclusive on CNN showing uniformed officers removing the Christmas Day bomber from the plane (the picture is seen in the video link above).

Because the man has yet to be tried, and because information on this attempted bombing is still sensitive in nature, the American public won’t be seeing that video anytime soon, if at all, and it seems that the Federal government doesn‘t want to mention it. But what is also even more interesting, is that CNN and other main stream media outlets have yet to follow up with any questions, about the man standing with a camcorder filming the bomber on flight 253.

the earlier group that did the muslim provocation/dry run on Air Tran also had someone in their group filming or taking cell phone pictures of passengers.

Looking for Air Marshalls?

So wtf is this video that there has been mumblings about all this time. if true, the owner has had plenty of time to strike a deal; and/or if bigbromofo has this guy on ice somewhere we should have gotten wind of that by now!’

gb? don’t mention the name of that...opportunist non-talent!

Just because CNN is not reporting information doesn’t mean they don’t have information.

We can be sure that if anything they know would negatively impact the One, we will never get that info from CNN.

I believe from the context of the article that “the owner” is in league with the terrorist. It certainly would be odd to happen to have a camcorder readily available during the last part of the flight.

BTW, the author makes a big deal about how “most everyone has a cell phone with camera or video capabilities”, ignoring, incredibly, the long established ban on cell phone use during flights.

I admit I have a dog in the fight, but has anyone else noticed that there are a number of newsworthy stories that break on Examiner.com? The Citizen Journalist is getting the implications of the news far more than the MSM, and connecting the dots the MSM refuses to even recognize.

Isn’t that interesting?

Uh? It's merely two button presses away on most cell phones. ...ignoring, incredibly, the long established ban on cell phone use during flights.

You're funny. If you've flown in the last 10 years, you would know that the stews even tell you to put your phone where you can reach it without getting up because they allow you to use it while taxiing after landing. It's in 9 out of 10 biz travellers' shirt/coat pockets. I'm surprised there's only one video, frankly.

Oh, and remember "Let's Roll?" That was overheard by Beamer's wife from his cell phone which he and others used to confirm what was happening.

I think they’re talking about an actual stand-alone camcorder, not a cell phone with video capabilities.

How long did the whole incident take, that’s a question too. Most cell phones take at least ten seconds to boot up. If it looks like somebody’s trying to blow up the plane, my first thought is not going to be, hey, I’m going to turn on my cell phone and stare it for ten or fifteen seconds, then I’ll fumble with the keyboard so I can take a movie of whatever is happening thirty seconds from now.

It had to be a passenger on the flight. We can be certain they have all been tracked down. Which one held the video cam?

everyone on the plane knew they were going to die at that point. who on the plane is going to be telling people not to use their phones, and who was going to be wasting what little time they had left filming instead of saying goodbye to their loved ones?

Are you really that uninformed about phone tech, jiggy?

Not everyone has their phone off when they're supposed to...haven't you ever watched what people do on an airplane? The people with Blackberries/iPhones put them in "flight mode" where the phone transceiver is off, but the rest of the PDA/cam function great.

I think they’re talking about an actual stand-alone camcorder, not a cell phone with video capabilities.

Well, ok. You can think whatever you wish.

But since they don't even know where this guy is, who he was, or what he looked like, I'm pretty sure this article doesn't accurately convey the classification of a video recorder.

"Does it use cassettes, or SD cards or internal flash or what, sir?" is not a question I suspect anyone on board was asking the fella. A few GB flash memory could record the entire flight at low camera-phone resolutions.

TSA Confiscates Boy’s Play-Doh at New Orleans Airport

Tuesday, January 05, 2010

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Extra security at the airport in New Orleans has cost one small boy a Christmas gift from his grandma.

On a post-Christmas flight out of New Orleans last week, the TSA confiscated young Josh Pitney’s Play-Doh.

“You know all you have to worry about is it getting in the carpet – a small problem to have as opposed to a child who is entertained for half an hour,” said the child’s mother Christy Pitney.

“I had the kids and my husband was there with all our bags, she continued. “Josh and I were sitting, getting our shoes on and, my husband kind of motioned to us and said - they took our Play -Doh.”.

LOL. No...I'm no conssumer products expert!

But do surf the web for news from CES 2010 this week in Las Vegas.

I'm sure all the latest features are being press-released there.

And think about hard-disk cams instead of direct to DVD. You do want to edit out some of the vid, no? Why not download it to your pc, save what you like, crop the "is it recording" blurbs, and burn that to a coherent watchable DVD for the kids/friends.

You have it with you because you just got it and don't want it out of your hands and were also going over some files.

It would also be odd to film an event that you *thought* was going to bring down the aircraft...

If I had a camera in my hand I'd be filming away. I've taken numerous pictures of auto accidents as I happened to pass by them or other things that have caught my eye, such as really stupid street signs or stores with burned out letters that make something funny, like FOOt locKER.

However, filming the entire flight seems a bit weird for two reasons. The coincidence of that together with someone happening to have bomb in his undies is great. But if the guy was working with the bomber and the bomb was supposed to go off, how did he think his camera would survive the explosion and breakup of the plane?

I wonder the prospects for opening up a small stand, near the boarding gate, for personal parachutes. For a fee, of course.

You’ve touched on something that immediately struck me. If this isn’t just a case of something being inflated beyond what it actually was - namely, that the guy was recording “the entire flight” - then it does appear that he was expecting it to happen. If he was in on it, I’m struck by the possibility that he was a second Al Qaeda operative, sent (possibly without the knowledge of the bomber) to document the events because the bomber was given materials that were expected to malfunction, thus suggesting that what they wanted was to determine things such as how long it would take to make the device functional and detonate it, whether it would be detected, what any passenger/crew reaction would be, etc., as intel for future similar operations. Clearly, this information would be unavailable to them had the bomber succeeded.

Maybe it put extra pressure on the bomber NOT to chicken out, knowing he was being recorded

If there was no bombing, then the accomplice had a perfect video after-action record for al Qaeda trainers of how well the bomber responded to his training and how passengers and crew reacted, and any Air Marshalls

Just because CNN is not reporting information doesn’t mean they don’t have information.

The media/authorities LIED in the Charles Bishop/Bishra case in Florida (Tampa) 2001 (I believe November).

They insisted that he was NOT engaging in terrorism when he stole a small plane and flew it into a bank building. They said the target was just coincidental. They denied terrorist intent.

His suicide note was in his pocket. It was suppressed for months. They called him a "young conservative" who went crazy from his pimple cream.

10th word in is "terrorist" that has been scratched out by someone. Now that brief into a two page letter that also praised Bin Laden and Al Qaeda... you'd think he would just START OVER if he'd messed up.

I have prepared this statement in regards to the terrorist acts I am about to commit. First of all, Osama bin Laden is absolutely justified in the terror he has caused on 9-11. He has brought a mighty nation to its knees! God blesses him and the others who helped make September 11th happen.

The U.S. will have to face the consequences for its horrific actions against the Palestinian people and Iraqis by its allegiance with the monstrous Israelis--who want nothing short of world domination!

You will pay--God help you--and I will make you pay!

There will be more coming!

Al Qaeda and other organizations have met with me several times to discuss the option of me joining. I didn't.

This is an operation done by me only. I had no other help, although, I am acting on their behalf.

Osama bin Laden is planning on blowing up the Super Bowl with an antiquated nuclear bomb left over from the 1967 Israeli-Syrian war.

The letter was supressed until after the 2002 Super Bowl.

Airlines and airports need to step up to Vegas style levels of observation.

Biometrics are used to match faces of people entering the casinos against known card cheats (which are then faxed out to other casinos to put them on alert).

They also look for persons at the games using radio technologies, partners, and small card counters.

Our nation’s hotels used to have private detectives on staff to make sure things going on in the hotel were on the up and up. Now we don’t even want to have a trained observer on EVERY flight monitoring the passengers for unusual activity.

You may be onto something. That would explain the video, and it would also answer the question: Why did the bomber wait until the plane was almost landed? That seemed strange that he was instructed not to detonate until the plane was over Detroit.

Well that part didn’t puzzle me. I presumed the notion was that if detonated at that point, the blast might impact/destroy via secondary explosions other nearby aircraft, whether in the air or on the ground; or have a similar impact on the airport itself.
