(CNN) -- Following the attempt to bomb a passenger jet on Christmas Day, President Obama said that "once the suspect attempted to take down Flight 253, it's clear Homeland Security and Aviation Security took all appropriate actions."
I am a commercial airline pilot who was deep over the Atlantic flying from St. Kitts and Nevis for nearly six hours on Christmas Day following the attempted bombing on Flight 253.
I only learned about the incident after landing when I looked at the CNN Web site on my iPhone. I'm justifiably furious that I was not notified while airborne.
Our government clearly dropped the ball. President Obama has ordered a review into the intelligence failures leading up to the attempted Christmas Day bombing by Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, but an equally important review needs to be made into how events were handled once AbdulMutallab attempted to carry out his plan.
Specifically, why weren't the actions the Transportation Safety Administration outlines in our aviation manuals initiated, and what took place inside the federal Domestic Events Network in the immediate aftermath of the terror attempt?
Following the 9/11 review, the DEN was given the task of instituting new procedures for controllers on how to communicate information about suspicious aircraft throughout the system.
The Washington-based DEN Operations Center is supposed to allow federal agencies with jurisdiction over the security of U.S. airspace to communicate information in real time. So why, after eight years and billions of dollars, was the information concerning the incident available to me only on my iPhone?
Like many commercial pilots, I flew in the military. There, each squadron maintains something called a pre-mishap plan. Basically, it's a three-ring binder with a series of actions the watch officer is supposed to take when a mishap happens.

Once again the Obama staff is caught lying.
It seems Obama and his staff believe that a lie is better than the truth.
Goodness, it must keep them awake all night trying to remember every lie that spoke the prior day.
The leftist media endlessly played Pres. Bush's expression of shock and justifiable incomprehension when told of the attack on the WTC in front of a kindergarten class. They faulted him for calmly continuing until the scheduled conclusion of his visit.
No one can deny that once he departed that classroom it was "go time".
“Like many commercial pilots, I flew in the military.”
Ahah! There is the problem. As a veteran, the author is a probable suspect enemy of the State, along with Christians and Constitutionalists! A good thing that DHS has profiled THESE potential threats, and that we have Tin Janet as Sword and Shield of the State!
Thank you Barack Hussein Obama!
Thank you Southern Poverty Law Center!
Your levels of intellectual prowess have never been seen in our leadership before . . .
(I really am sincere on that last point)
Before Homeland Security it didnt take 60-90 minutes to alert Bush. What the hell are these people doing?
Barry was on vacation. Would you want your vacation interrupted by stupid Presidential duties? (sarc)
The system worked!
Obama would have cared if that plane violated that 30 mile radius no-fly zone that he had established.
And THIS is the outfit that will run a "better, more efficient Health Care system that will save money?"
CANDY CROWLEY: So, just to finish up on the question-- I do want to talk to you about security measures -- but do you think -- has there been any evidence of the Al Qaida ties that this suspect has been claiming?
NAPOLITANO: Right now, that is part of the criminal justice investigation that is ongoing, and I think it would be inappropriate to speculate as to whether or not he has such ties.
What we are focused on is making sure that the air environment remains safe, that people are confident when they travel. And one thing I'd like to point out is that the system worked. Everybody played an important role here. The passengers and crew of the flight took appropriate action. Within literally an hour to 90 minutes of the incident occurring, all 128 flights in the air had been notified to take some special measures in light of what had occurred on the Northwest Airlines flight. We instituted new measures on the ground and at screening areas, both here in the United States and in Europe, where this flight originated.
So the whole process of making sure that we respond properly, correctly and effectively went very smoothly.
So in a narrow sense, Napolitano may indeed have been referring to the notification system that kicks in immediately after an attack.
Well heck... they didn’t even bother to notify the President for over three hours.
He didn’t do anything, and probably wouldn’t have even if the attack was successful. (other than a quick private thanks to Allah the Beneficent) There, I said and I ain’t ashamed of it either!
0bamao has his big meeting today as a CYA, so when the next plane isn’t so lucky and rains down in pieces after one of his muzzie brothers blows it up. In reality, Hussein couldn’t care less about the people on board.
Perhaps ‘O’ didn’t need to be notified?
(Think about it while contemplating the identity of the “sharply dressed man.”)
That’s assuming that anyone had a clue what the proper procedures were.
Wasn’t 0bama notified at 9:?? Hawaii time?
BUMP...BUMP....BUMP and on til its DONE!
