GM has come out swinging from its government-induced bankruptcy, but Ford's strength in 2009 makes it a contender in 2010.
Things are looking up for the American automakers this year. General Motors is restructuring itself and is winding down its Saab brand. But though there seems to be more confidence in GM now than there was last year, Ford is giving GM a run for its money. These two companies could both be victorious, or one could leave the other badly bruised in the battle for top car company in 2010.
General Motors probably wants to forget 2009--the year that it was forced into bankruptcy. It ended the year on a higher note; GM's 2009 third quarter revenue was $28 billion, up $4.9 billion from its second quarter revenue.
Because of GM restructuring, Lloyd places his bets on GM having a major advantage over rival Ford Motor Company . "Sad to say, but with regard to Ford's noble fiscal and management controls, they may find themselves at a disadvantage in the next decade," Lloyd says.

It’s really too bad... I don’t want to put ANY money in UAW pockets, that money will just be used to finance Dumocrat candidates. So I cannot buy American. And I don’t want to buy foreign either. In fact I don’t want to help Obama’s Socialist regine at all, so I’m just stuffing my money in a mattress... what I don’t send to Scott Brown, Doug Hoffman, NYer’s for Growth, or Sarah PAC.
Took delivery today of the 2010 F 150 Ext. My bet is always with share holder owned companies over govt. run operations.

I got a card from GM offering me 2000.00 of most of their new vehicles.. they are getting desperate I think, this offer was good on the low end cars as well...

If Ford has learned the hard lesson of not pandering to the homosexuals, and flipping the bird to Christians objecting to such garbage, as it did in the ‘00’s,
then I will bet Ford will be in better shape.
ANY company run by the government is doomed to fail. I certainly will not be buying a GM car or truck, no way. I’ve never really liked Ford but after Government Motors sold out and after owning Chrysler cars and trucks, I’ll be buying Ford. Chrysler quality sucks.
Except that Lloyd forgets that it's good product that moves car sales, not fiscal and management controls.
And what good product does GM even have? Maybe the Malibu, but compare it to a Fusion and you'll see AND feel a difference.

How about the 3-4 month wait on orders of Equinox/Terrain and Camaro? Malibu is fantastic and getting a new version in MY2012. Get in the back seat of the Mexican made Fusion. It is a half size smaller than Malibu. If you have more than two people Malibu is definetly the pick. I would also get one if an empty nester, the interiors blow Fusion away. Still, the Fusion is a very good car.
Buick LaCrosse is also flying off the lots.
Chevy Traverse/GMC Acadia top notch.
GM has plenty of good product and it will get better.
Cadillac CTS-V coupe.
Ford will do well in the teens.
GM will do better. Like the past 50 years.

I have bought GM cars for the past 15 years. I will not be doing that in the future. I am not having my money used by unions to vote in Democrats! I may buy a non union car as my next car. I would buy a Honda built in this country.
There is only so many Freepers.
There are Liberals that have purchased imports but will buy GM next time because it is Government Motors.
My Honda Pilot owning sister is one of them.
But that is fringe and will cancel each other out.
GM will be ahead of Ford in market share in 2015 and 2020 in the USA.
Ford is just too reactive when it comes to design and new technology. Being conservative financially is good but with product fortune favors the bold.
That would've been the "Cash for Clunkers" sales bump, correct?
On a tangential issue, remember when GSA (government fleet) purchases raised eyebrows due to many Ford products - right after bailing out GM? I was curious to see whether Ford made it into any of the vehicle classes for 2010 and began poking around on the GSA website.
I found a link to the "2010 Vehicles Standards" or some such, where you can look at each vehicle class and see the available cars and trucks. To my great surprise, Ford is still in many of the classes - and, get this... so are Toyota, Honda, etc.
That's new as of this year, I'm pretty sure. GSA was only able to procure "big three" vehicles in the past. Now it appears the foreign automakers can bid, as long as the vehicles are produced in the U.S.
GM is losing its last lifeline... and the UAW hasn't noticed yet.
