The ship is one of three Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessels battling Japanese whalers in the Southern Ocean.

The Ady Gil WAS one of the ships

One down and only two to go.

I told my wife the day they announced they were renaming and taking the EarthRacer boat with them on their open seas piracy attempt that they'd stick that sucker in front of a whaling ship, and then claim that it was sunk by the Japanese. And lo and behold, look what happened.

I hope Discovery Channel got some good footage of the entire event including any conspiracy to place it in harm's way. But this will be a blow for the Japanese; the EarthRacer boat was extremely popular in Australia, and it's sinking will rally a new round of donations to the Sea Shepperd pirates.

That big ship chased it down and rammed it, huh? More like the little one was harrassing them i bet, cutting too close in front, or trying to force the Japanese to change course. They are no better than somali pirates. Love it when libs get real consequences for their theater.

They’re doing their cause no good either.

Most Australians probably don’t like the Japanese whalers. I’m one of them. But the Japanese aren’t breaking the law and so what I like and dislike is irrelevant - they have the right to do what they are doing.

What Sea Shepherd and similar groups try to do does break laws, and while I might agree with their goal, their methods means I can’t support them.

Captain Paul Watson and his bumbling crew continues to be owned by the Japanese Whalers.

They should have left them for the sharks!

The way the Ady Gil looks, I’d expect Otter to jump out of it and punch Greg Marmalard.

I don’t approve of whaling, but had to laugh at this. It reminds me of the eco-whackos who were sailing their solar-wind-muscle powered boat up to the artic when the whole thing broke down, and they had to be rescued by an OIL TANKER. God has such a great sense of humor.

It is pleasing that such a cute, rather gay boat got scuttled.

Don't bring a skiff to a whaler fight, sweeties.

The Ady Gil (previously named Earth Race)had just set a speed record for circumnavigation. What a freaking waste.

It may make good eco-theater, but I refuse to watch the shows on Tv after having sat through one.

The anti-whalers seem unhinged to me. If they have a grievance, the place to air it is over whaling in an international forum, not through the terroristic disruption of legal activities which endangers all who are involved.
