EPA replacing Bush smog limit with stricter rule
Los Angeles Times ^ | 1/7/10 | LAT

The Environmental Protection Agency will propose the nation's strictest-ever smog limits today, a move that would put Los Angeles, Chicago, their suburbs and much of the rest of the country in violation of federal air quality regulations.

The Agency will propose allowing a ground-level ozone concentration of between 60 and 70 parts per billion, down from the 75 parts per billion standard adopted under President Bush in 2008.

The proposed range was what scientists had recommended during the Bush administration. However, former President George W. Bush personally intervened and set the standard above what was advised after protests from electric utilities and other industries.

I’d like to propose the EPA be abolished — it’s outlived its usefulness, greatly expanded mission creep, and has shown it can’t do squat about real problems.

Too many people love America, love life and love the world....comment about your Tagline.

Abolish the EPA, but yet again, abolish ALL extra-Constitutional bureaus. We could pay back 2 trillion dollars every year for seven straight years to our debt. It could be paid off by 2017, just with the savings. Imagine a debt free country, no Federal Reserve, less than a Trillion dollar yearly budget in 7 years. A commodity backed currency, and another Calvin Coolidge in the White House....hey, I can dream can’t I?

Who started the EPA? What President put together a gov’t organization that could so devastatingly affect us like they do?

And I agree, the EPA is worthless and run by liberal enviro-whackos. This is going to cause increases in living expenses, I’d bet.

I know my tag is a BIT controversial.

The problem isn’t respect for life, loyalty to country under normal circumstances, or sane care taking of the globe this side of glory. The problem is stopping with these. Ozone is Nature’s system for consuming pollution be it natural or man made. Complaining about ozone is like complaining about the firemen at a fire.

One way or the other this pack of Mother’s Truckers in Obama’s Government are determined to destroy the US economy.

If they cannot get Cap and Trade passed they will use the EPA to destroy our public power grid.

I’m with you! After what happened this summer in CA, creating a drought that destroyed the farmland for some stupid smelt, I decided that the EPA needs to be gotten rid of - now!

"He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance."

This accusation against King George listed in the U.S. Declaration of Independence fits our current Federal Government very well.

Why not 0 parts per billion?? They'll just lower it again in a couple of years anyway.

I have a new theory, back to ECON 101.

The most effective changes are around the margins. I.E., you get a job after your AS degree, max your 401k to the company match, and go back to school since the company pays for it. 8 years later, you are wealthier and get a new job internally that pays 20 grand more, life is good.

Well that can work in reverse too, with these clowns on a National Level, let us take a look.

This and the Diesel Regs, will make cost of shipping food more, Inflation goes up.

Turn off the water in California, farmers go broke, food gets scare, and inflation goes up.

Spending on a massive level @ the Federal Level, The dollar eventually tanks.

And it goes on and on. They are not doing a Lenin/Marx takeover a-la 1917-1918, they are making marginal changes around the edges to collapse the system.

There can be no other reason for what they are doing in totality, for what they are doing defies all rules of Accounting, Economics and Business....

Nixon, that hated hard right wing politician, created the EPA, as well as OSHA and probably a couple of other alphabet atrocities as well.

this will close down more businesses in order to comply and result in more job losses and less tax revenue.

hopefully this will reult in more budget cutbacks effecting the 5 billion EPA budget

I love my country, I actually think too much. I weep like Glenn Beck thinking of how corrupt and black it has become within. I just think that this “blackness” is meant to turn us to God. We need to quit worrying so much about politics and others shortcomings (politicians mostly) and make sure God isn’t angry and disappointed in us.

Houston? The entire country will be in non-attainment. This is going to be as expensive as cap and trade. I thought 75 was unreasonable...especially after we knowingly increased emissions by adding ethanol to our fuel.
