Spying On Icebergs?

Climate Change: We can't stop terrorists from boarding planes with explosive undies, but the CIA has assets sufficient to monitor Arctic ice and look for signs of global warming? Is al-Qaida recruiting polar bears?

One wouldn't think that the increasing polar bear population and the increasing rate of recidivism of former Guantanamo detainees released into the wild were related, but they are.

At the urging of Al Gore, the administration is signing on to a plan to task vital intelligence assets to protect not the people of the United States, but the environment.

The program, shot down by President Bush, who thought we had better things to do after 9/11, involves using government intelligence assets, including spy satellites and other classified sources, to monitor such things as clouds, glaciers, deserts and tropical forests.

Climate change alarmist and former Vice President Gore began lobbying for the program's resumption in 2008 and has received the enthusiastic endorsement of CIA Director Leon Panetta, who met with scientists backing the program in November.

"Director Panetta believes it is crucial to examine the potential national security implications of phenomena such as desertification, rising sea levels and population shifts," said Paula Weiss, an agency spokeswoman. The only thing we should be scanning the world's deserts for are terrorist targets for our Predator drones.

Sen. John Barrasso, Republican of Wyoming, is appalled at this misuse of federal surveillance equipment, including the highly classified satellites of the National Reconnaissance Office. He believes the agency should be fighting terrorism, "not spying on sea lions."

Keeping an eye out on those damned Islamic polar bears to make sure that they don’t porpoisely hurt us.

I’m bad, I’m bad. Actually I’m freezing my ass off in DC due to Global Warming. Noticed that Al Gore isn’t here. Guess it’s not time for another con-job check from the carbon credit fools.

I saw some woman talking head repeat this on the news tonight.

I can not believe people believe this Krap! Here we are shifting valuable intelligence gathering satellites from their crucial orbits to follow an ice berg or measure the temp of an ice cap. Why? So we can predict where AQ will start stiring things up in the future?

Gees use those satellites to find AQ today and send in what ever is needed to destroy them today!

Let Panetta search for global climate change.

Hand the rest of CIA over to the Pentagon. Let them staff it with ex-Seals, the parts they keep.

What greater proof can there be of the unserious nature of this administration than to follow recommendations from a complete lunatic?

Plus, it has the advantage that you can hide your source data and say “It’s Classified!”

About 6 weeks ago I posted news here of a modified blue-green algae that can dramatically increase the conversion of CO2 into inert biological matter and oxygen.

As such it constitutes a super weapon of incredible power ~ all you'd need do to bring a nation to its knees would be to seed lakes, streams and seacoasts with this stuff and next thing you know the amount of CO2 would be so low other plants could no longer survive.

I think it would be a fair use of CIA satellites and analytical resources to take a good look at the ecosphere to see if someone else has already "tested" such a weapon.

Before we run too far down the road of laying the whole thing at the feet of the Algore and his merry band of eco-thieves and scoundrels, this is one where I do believe we ought to look at the science first ~ then see what the CIA (the Satellite Surveillance Service) can discover.

I'd hate to be "second best" in this particular contest.

One might think they planned it that way :)

Not that they would ever hide or destroy data :)

Why are they spying on Jews?

No, they’re spying on icebergs.

Icebergs, Greenbergs, Goldbergs....what’s the difference?

NASA is already devoting resources to studying the Earth’s climate http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/index.html , for the CIA to do this is a redundancy of effort, particularly when we would be better served if they looked for our enemies, rather than having our intelligence service acting as an extension of the Weather bureau.

Re Why are they spying on Jews?

Did you hear about the Jewish gynecologist, Dr. Gold Finger?
Or the Jewish proctologist, Dr. Cold Finger?

Nope? Then you didn’t get the jokes.
