For nearly two months, the animated political cartoon sat on npr.org virtually unnoticed. And then someone discovered it, was disgusted and launched it into the blogosphere -- making it a raucous rallying point for conservatives.
The conservative tom-tom was extremely impressive.
When the "Learn to Speak Tea Bag" cartoon making fun of "Tea Party" activists was published on Nov.12, there were 5 comments. By 6 p.m. this past Monday, there were 258. By Wednesday night, over 1,100 people had commented and it was still the most-recommended link on NPR's web site. On Monday and Tuesday, calls came in every 10 minutes. Over 300 wrote to me -- most of them angry.
The 90-second animation, which creator Mark Fiore calls satire, rather summarily dismisses participants in the Tea Party movement as inarticulate, paranoid bumblers. The video "teaches" the viewer to speak conversational "tea bag."
Moderator: Finally, learning a new language doesn't have to be hard. You can be fluent in conversational tea bag in just a few short minutes. Lesson one: Don't get distracted by the confusing words of other languages.
Character: I think the public option and the competition it would foster would really -- socialist, socialist.
Moderator: Good, very good. Lesson two: If you're having trouble understanding the words of others or being understood yourself, use teabag's stronger, more descriptive words.
Character: "Nazi, Nazi, Nazi."

"The cartoon is a perfect caricature of what NPR looks like to conservatives: liberals snidely imagining conservatives to be monosyllabic clods who can't make an argument beyond name-calling," said Tim Graham, director of media analysis for the conservative Media Research Center. "Conservatism is 'satirized' into a form of political retardation."

They ought to put up a Michael Ramirez cartoon, except that he takes shots at politicians, not the public, so it wouldn’t really be a true balance.
We have NO obligation to you little peons.
Now pay your taxes which we need (we’re sorely underfunded) and have a nice day. :)
Check out the comments below this YouTube. The fact that the Liberals posting the comments are lunatics is obvious. The fact that this YouTube brings out their hatred is proof that we’re rattling their cages. Shows one and all what we’re up against. That being, brainwashed, mindless, hateful destroyers of Freedom who have no knowledge of history.

They remind me of the vermin that painted Swastikas on Jews homes in the 1930’s in Germany. In the end, those vermin perished too.
You should see their AWESOME cartoon mocking the inarticulate bumblings of Obama supporters who were talking about how once he became president all their bills would be paid!
I'm sure it's over there, hold on, let me find it...uh...
Attacking White People who actually want to participate in their nation's politics--the easiest, most anemic "satire" target next to the church and, of course, white males in general.
Can you summarize what their response is? I don’t want to give them a click.
If any fellow Freepers are posting to “Contract from America”; you may want to push the De-funding of NPR.
That argument won't fly since their assumption that "we do it, too" does not work - our side does not engage in character assassination like their's does. So, finding anyone legitimate to "balance" their cartoonist is doomed to failure from the beginning.
“our side does not engage in character assassination like theirs does.”
Considering that we could do so without straying from the truth, perhaps we should.
Isn’t it against NPR’s charter and possibly even against the law for them to promote a commercial website - they are promoting the guy who made that stupid cartoon’s site - he has Google adsense all over his landing page, thereby making it a commercial site.
NPR should’ve had their funding cut to zero the first day the Republicans won power in Congress, and if Bubba wouldn’t have signed off on it, than Dubya should’ve. Garbage Communist Network. If the Communists want it, let them pay for it.
That it took nearly 2 months for this to even be noticed just shows how irrelevant NPR is to conservatives.
Dear Author of article:
Reason it went un noticed. Conservatives don’t visit you website.
I’ve seen that video several times and just watched it again. However, there are no comments (that I can see) after it. What am I doing wrong?
If any fellow Freepers are posting to Contract from America; you may want to push the De-funding of NPR.As the author/omsbudsman said, it is only two percent. They'll never miss it.
They receive the majority of their funding from institutions/ngos that receive taxpayer money.
So, they are majority funded by taxpayer money, but it’s indirect.
I see no way we will have money to fund these communists’ media operation after Dear Leader’s deficit has been incurred. It should be the first to go.
