MoveOn.org: "A Republican in Kennedy's Seat?"
My email | 1-8-2010 | MoveOn.org

Posted on 01/08/2010 1:02:57 PM PST by FrdmLvr

Dear MoveOn member,

In 11 days, we could lose progressive hero Ted Kennedy's Senate seat—and with it, any hope for passing major progressive legislation this year.

A new poll Tuesday showed Democrat Martha Coakley's lead in the special election to succeed Kennedy is at the edge of the margin of error, and the non-partisan Cook Political Report now says it's very competitive.1 And today, some of the people behind the infamous Swift Boat and racist Willie Horton ads are spending $400,000 on a new attack ad. Republican Scott Brown and his extreme right-wing supporters are significantly outspending Coakley on TV.2

A Republican victory here would be a catastrophe—Democrats would lose their 60th vote in the Senate, health care could die, and the Republicans could block pretty much anything they want.

We can't let a right-winger take over Ted Kennedy's seat because not enough progressives are paying attention. Coakley urgently needs help before it's too late. Your contribution in the next 24 hours will help her expand her all-out campaign for victory. Can you contribute $5 to Coakley's campaign right away?

Martha Coakley's link deleted here.

Martha Coakley will carry on Ted Kennedy's progressive legacy. In endorsing Coakley, Vicki Kennedy, Ted Kennedy's wife, said, "My husband fought for healthcare reform for more than 40 years. Martha Coakley shares those critical beliefs." Coakley has also been outspoken against restrictions in the bill on women's right to choose.3

As Massachusetts Attorney General, Coakley was aggressive in challenging the Wall Street titans who helped bring on the financial crisis, and she recovered tens of millions of dollars for taxpayers and victims of Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, and UBS for their deceptive activities.4 She'll be a strong fighter in Washington for tough regulations on the financial industry.

And Republican Scott Brown? He's a "free enterprise advocate"5 who thinks the system works just fine. But he's giving Coakley a serious challenge. He promised, "As the 41st senator I can stop a lot of this stuff in its tracks....I can actually force them to go back to the drawing board."6 And there are rumors that the Republican Party and the Club for Growth will also begin attack ads on Coakley soon.

And the race is further confused by the presence of a 3rd candidate, named Joe Kennedy, who isn't related to Ted Kennedy, but is a tea-party extremist. Martha Coakley needs our help to cut through the clutter and get her message out—on TV, at the doors, and on the phones.

At this moment, when Ted Kennedy's greatest goal in life is within reach, we cannot afford to let Republican extremists snatch away his legacy. Can you help with an urgent contribution of $5? Click here:

Donated couple days ago.

I was so inspired by this thread that I whipped out my wallet and donated a little bit myself!

As a side note to the RNC, I live in Maryland.

Sounds good to me!

The election cheats may be caught off guard. They could never expect a Donk to lose in Mass. I am saying my prayers. That would put the fear in to the rest of the collective.

Very good point!

They have never NEEDED to have to stuff ballots in Mass. It has always been a dem stronghold so they may not have the fraud network and cheaters resources there to support a fraudulent vote.

This could be very interesting in deed!

It would be supremely ironic if the death of Ted Kennedy lead to the fall of the Ted Kennedy Memorial Healthcare Derailment.

How were either of the Willie Horton ads racist? So what if you show the face of a convicted killer and he’s black? SO WHAT?

I believe that the only sounds coming from the fake Catholic Teddy will be his soul crying out from the pain of burning in Hellfire for all eternity. He is an unrepentant abortionist and disgusting excuse for a human being. It is a shame as he was warned on countless occasions to mend his ways, yet he was more interested in the shallow accolades of the Leftists than the hard work of doing God's will.

You may be a Scott Brown voter if:

* You’re in a union, and you’re going to have to pay a 40 percent tax on your “Cadillac” health-care plan if Martha Coakley gets a chance to vote for Obama’s health-care rationing bill.

* You’re still waiting for that property-tax relief that Deval Patrick promised you in 2006.

* You’re on kidney dialysis and you have to pay for your treatment . . . but illegal aliens don’t.

* You’ve been rear-ended by a drunken state senator.

* You’ve been groped in Lowell by a state senator who, when arrested, gave police the name of a state rep.

* You lost your appetite for lunch one day when you observed a female state senator in a restaurant stuffing FBI cash bribes into her bra.

* You watch this crime wave emanating from the State House and wonder why the attorney general can’t seem to find one single solon to arrest, when the feds have no difficulty whatsoever nailing House speaker after speaker after speaker on serious felonies - not the technicalities Martha Coakley’s gone after Sal DiMasi for.

* You own a package store in the Merrimack Valley, and you’re getting killed by the hacks’ new 6.25 percent sales tax on alcohol, on top of the 37 percent excise tax.

* You believe that if someone rapes his 23-month-old niece with a hot curling iron, the district attorney should go after the rapist even before the child’s mother files a complaint - even if the perp is a politically wired cop and the DA is running for higher office.

* You believe that if the governor’s appointees rubberstamp a $44 million utility-rate increase, and then the next week Deval pockets $7,000 in contributions from that same power company’s executives (and spouses) at their lobbyist’s office, perhaps the attorney general should at least have . . . a comment.

* You don’t have a big problem with making county jailbirds pay $5 a day room and board at the House of Correction, even if the SJC does.

* You do, however, have a problem with Billy Bulger’s $198,205.92 state pension (with survivor’s benefits).

* Your local property-tax bill is rising almost as fast as the value of your home is dropping.

* You wonder why Martha Coakley never apologized to Tookie Amirault.

* You’ve had to wait hours in line at a Registry office to renew your driver’s license after they shut down your local branch because of the state’s alleged fiscal crisis - but they still want to give free tuition at state colleges to illegal aliens.

# You’re a veteran, and you wonder why you’re supposed to vote for an ardent supporter of the administration whose Homeland Security secretary refuses to call real terrorists terrorists, but who last spring issued a memo to local cops warning that “the return of military veterans . . . could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups.”

# You can’t figure out why you’re supposed to care about the endorsement of Martha Coakley by some woman from Louisiana whose father did his own bit at Club Fed, and by some guy who put a woman in a wheelchair for life back on Nantucket.

# You did at least some of your Christmas shopping in New Hampshire to beat the 25 percent sales tax increase the Democrats imposed on working people to pay for the corrupt hackerama that Martha Coakley so proudly endorses.

# Your federal income taxes are going through the roof in 2011 when the Bush tax cuts expire - and Martha Coakley thinks that’s just wonderful.

# You’d like to send a message to the limousine liberals who are driving this state and this country off a cliff.

Wow

Everyone, please contribute !!!!!!!!!!!

I would never vote for or support a pro-abomination candidate.

First, he isn't completely pro-abortion, he has pushed for high restrictions on abortion and citizens for life endorsed him. Second, think about chess versus target shooting. The abortion position as a whole will be greatly set back with him in that seat, even if he is only moderate-right on it. It will be a bigger blow against the abortion lobby by our taking that seat.

This was too rich! Go Joe!

Joe Kennedy is no tea-party candidate, he is a trojan horse. He is a self admitted lifelong democrat/independent. Code pinko, completely pro-choice. He is just there to try to split our side. The Tea Party Express endorsed Brown.

The “Willie Horton” ad never showed Willy Horton. The ad featured a revolving gate with 11 actors dressed as cons going through. Only two of them were Black.
