White House: Obama Will Not Answer Questions On Terror Incident

Q: He has spoken quite a bit on the Christmas Day incident but he hasn't opened himself up to questions from the media. Do you think he might entertain some questions on that --

MR. GIBBS: No.

Q: and isn't it unusual that on an event this big that he would not open himself up to questions?

MR. GIBBS: I don't want to speculate. He's not taking questions today.

Q: Well, Mr. Knoller, I think, will back me up on this. He hasn't had a press conference since July at the White House. Why can't we get him to respond to questions rather than just give statements on issues like this?

MR. GIBBS: We did this before. I think the last time we did -- we talked about the President's media schedule, and here you all, to a person, reminded me of our dramatic overexposure.

Q: No, I certainly don't feel that way.

MR. GIBBS: You don't now.

Q: Well, that was then. (Laughter.)

MR. GIBBS: I appreciate at least that we've isolated the flip-flop, and now we can just --

Q: Are there any plans for a press conference?

MR. GIBBS: Not that I'm aware of.

No formal press conference since July 22, 2009. If this had been Bush, the MSM would be mentioning it every day. Obama is hiding in plain view.

I’m so sorry. The King is unwell today and for the foreseeable future. Please make up anything you want but do not do or say anything that would cast us in an unfavorable light.

Gibbs will stay until Obama needs to throw him under the bus.

Obama hasn’t attended a press conference since last July.

Worse, he hasn’t hosted a party for the press since he was inaugurated. Or invited them to any of HIS parties.

Bill Clinton used to throw parties for the press at least once a week.

When will these jerks wake up and smell the roses?

Despite the dislike I have for this administration, it deserves the latitude to combat terrorism without being needled for details. For many reasons, the administration needs to be successful in battling terrorism.

I would rather see political and policy adjustments instead of finger pointing and heads rolling. To the contrary, there are good arguments for firing the ‘titular’ head of security - the message of severity.

The media’s interest in this situation is feigned and calculable in the sense that, regardless of inquiry, the journalistic impact is low, and the outcome is predictable.

True....BUT...I was not referring to questions only related to terrorism, but questions on all issues. The reporter at the press conference (cannot remember name) had been questioning about the administration’s forecast for new jobs....before he asked about why it had been so long since a REAL press conference.

I disagree with this. Just because a POTUS is needled for details, does not mean he has to spill classified beans. He should make himself available and have the wherewithal to use good judgement in his responses and instill confidence in the American public.

I hadn't realized until this thread that Obama hasn't had a press conference since July. He sure has had time for golf and shave ice.

Will he answer the question why he spends time badmouthing Fox news or Rush Limbaugh or now maybe C-Span? Will he spend time answering why Healtcare talks are held in secret from the American people?

A formal press conference is not confined to terrorism issues. What about the economy? Or Obamacare? Or unemployment? This guy has been AWOL when it comes to the press asking him questions about these and other issues.

No formal press conference since July 22, 2009.

That one went so well for him.

LOL. I think that is why his handlers, Axelrod and Emanuel, have called a halt to any more of them. Without TOTUS, Obama is clueless.

I don’t disagree with any of the points made regarding tough, pertinent questions on issues that affect the Country, except for the decoy Press Room issue of terrorism.

I inserted a partially relevant, but sincere, opinion about the need for ‘latitude’ to support the proposition that the media is merely giving the impression it’s ‘tough’ on this administration. Knowing the administration will be reluctant to divulge specific information related to the incident, the press can generate some theater without any real cost to the ‘agenda’.

That aside, there is the rare instance of genuine journalism, but not a collection that’s worth celebrating at least from this Conservative’s perspective.
