ESPN analyst James interested in running for Hutchison's Senate seat

ESPN analyst Craig James, whose complaints about the way his son was treated led to the dismissal of Texas Tech coach Mike Leach, may be considering a career change.

The former SMU football player said this week that he might consider running for U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison’s seat when she steps down this year.

"I’m a Texan. I’m concerned for our country," James told WFAA-TV. "I disagree with the approach that we’re having, things that are taking place, and so whatever door opens up, I’ll look at it, if and when it opens up."

James, 49, joins a growing list of at least a half-dozen Texans who have expressed interest in running for Hutchison’s seat.

Well, this pretty much explains why the James family was so quick to run to the media regarding the son's Texas Tech "locked in a closet" adventure. The authority's never released the names so the James' immediately contacted the AP. Free publicity.

It that's true it appears Craig James will fit right in as a sleazy politician, regardless of party affliation.

Craig James also told WFAA that he considers himself a conservative and is concerned about the role government is playing in healthcare and business.

Last paragraph. Should have been first.

The only ESPN analyst I’d trust in a US Senate seat is Rush Limbaugh.

Roger Staubach’s name used to come up back when....I believe he’s still conervative, too.
He would be a shoe-in if he threw his hat in the ring.

Better a run for governor, but he’s too busy heading up the upcoming Super Bowl in Arlington. I’d love to get rid of both Perry and Hutchison.

Mike Leach is a bully who hides behind lawyers when the going gets tough.

Everyone at Texas Tech should be grateful he is out of the picture.

But, but, he wins a lot of games, so we’re willing to put up with all his baggage.

Yeah, right.

Hey...if Barry Soetoro was qualified to hold a U. S. Senate seat, Craig James is as well.

But it doesn't speak too well of the requirements to be a Senator. ;-)

Neither seems to be inclined to find employment outside of gov’t elective office. At least maybe we’ll get rid of one of them this summer.

I’m interested in the sudden James bit about running for office. There is some connections between the PR group or whatever they are that leaked the James video, James himself and Hutchison. Not sure how this all came about and what the connections are.

I’m imagining the attack ads on this one.... This guy was “The Great White Hope” when he was a running back for the New England Patriots. Last white guy to hit 1,000 yards in a season (Alstott came really close).

Kind of mixed on this one. This guy put Boise State at #7 when they were undefeated and dropped Texas Christian to #14. Not a fan of his logic. If there was ever a guy who would gravitate to the powers that be...

Can you translate sports rankings into political leanings? Probably not. But I just did.

Actually, James would fit best with the Democrats, since he got lots of experience at taking money under the table while playing at SMU.
